HP Expands Original Equipment Manufacturing Relationships to Extend Inkjet Printing Leadership

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 22, 2003

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced a significant expansion of its original equipment manufacturing (OEM) relationships within its consumer inkjet printing business. HP has concluded agreements for Olivetti Tecnost and Samsung Electronics to use HP's inkjet technology to expand their printing portfolios.

These relationships enable HP to further extend its inkjet business in countries where the OEM partners have a strong presence. The companies partnering with HP benefit by accessing the latest in inkjet printing technology.

"Fierce competition in the printer market requires that we carefully select partners that give us the best chance for success in the market," said Dr. J.W. Park, executive vice president, Samsung Electronics' Digital Printing Division. "We are pleased to team with HP to enhance our competitiveness with inkjet printing."

OEM-branded products based on HP's technology are expected to begin shipping in late 2003. Specific information about the various products to be introduced will be available through the OEM companies.

"As a worldwide leader in inkjet printing, we are always looking for opportunities to grow our business in new ways," said Larry Lesley, senior vice president, HP Imaging and Printing Group. "Beyond the relationships announced today, we will be pursuing additional OEM deals with other major consumer electronics companies."
