HP Appoints Global Public Relations Firms

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 3, 2003

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today formally announced the selection of three worldwide public relations firms—Burson-Marsteller, Hill & Knowlton, and Porter Novelli—to form a global network of partners supporting corporate and product public relations activities across the company. On a global basis, Burson-Marsteller will represent the company's Enterprise Systems Group (ESG) and HP Services (HPS), Hill & Knowlton will represent the Personal Systems Group (PSG), and Porter Novelli has been selected to represent the Imaging and Printing Group (IPG). In addition, Hill & Knowlton will provide HP Corporate Communications representation worldwide, including global and regional assignments.

"This arrangement effectively creates a new model of communications for HP, one which allows us to enhance the quality of our external communications and speak with one voice worldwide," said Kay Hart, vice president, HP Corporate Communications and Media Relations. "In addition, moving towards fewer, more strategic partners produces efficiencies of both scope and scale, representing significant value to the company."

The decision follows a public relations review and rationalization process that HP conducted over the past several months. The three firms were selected based on their respective strengths and experience in the industry, strategic support capabilities, and global presence.
