Compaq Delivers Software for an Adaptive Infrastructure With Enhanced ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack

Compaq Insight Manager 7 Service Pack Simplifies Blade Server Management, Inventory Reporting

HOUSTON, May 2, 2002

Continuing to deliver on its adaptive infrastructure strategy, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced the availability of Compaq Insight Manager 7 Service Pack 1 with comprehensive tools designed to provide customers with simplified management of ProLiant BL e-Class and future ProLiant BL p-Class blade servers, as well as to enable customers to create inventory reports.

Compaq Insight Manager 7 Service Pack 1 is included in the 5.40 version of the ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack, which is now shipping free of charge with all industry-standard ProLiant servers, including four next-generation Compaq ProLiant server models, also announced today (see accompanying press release).

"Customers—from SMBs with limited IT resources to larger enterprise organizations—increasingly require flexible, easy-to-use software tools that provide rapid access to and control over servers and business-critical data, as well as the scalability to meet growing business needs," said Paul Santeler, vice president, Management, Networking, and High Availability, Compaq Industry Standard Server Group. "In the ultra-dense blade server environment, management becomes even more critical to accelerating deployment and conserving resources. The enhanced Compaq Insight Manager 7 capabilities meet customers' critical business needs by providing them with simplified blade server management and extensive reporting capabilities for all ProLiant servers."

Simplified Blade Server Management

Compaq Insight Manager 7 Service Pack 1 simplifies blade server management by providing visual representations of Compaq ProLiant e-Class and future p-Class blade servers and their locations within blade server enclosures and blade server racks, and with rapid one-click access to Integrated Lights-Out and Integrated Administrator management processors.

Faster Inventory Report Creation

Compaq Insight Manager 7 Service Pack 1 allows systems administrators to create comprehensive inventory reports in seconds though a new reporting wizard feature. The inventory-reporting engine provides easy access to the comprehensive asset data collected by Compaq Insight Manager 7 without requiring any knowledge of complex database schema. In addition, the Discovery Filters feature enables systems administrators to concentrate on managing the types of devices that are most important to the organizations they serve.

About Adaptive Infrastructure

In December 2001, Compaq announced its blueprint for adaptive infrastructure that enables organizations to adapt to changing market conditions, conserve valuable human and technology resources, and rapidly respond to their customers in a dynamic business environment. As a critical part of this blueprint, the new software and services enable ProLiant BL e-Class and other ProLiant server customers to manage dynamic workloads, maximize compute cycles, adapt to change, and reallocate resources based on business needs—not on IT spending cycles—in multi-tiered environments.

Pricing and Availability

The software tools announced today are available now, and will be shipped free of charge with all ProLiant server purchases.
