Compaq's Industry-Leading Storage Technology Enhances Small Business Expansion

Small Businesses Invest in Compaq StorageWorks SAN-Based Storage Enterprise Networks to Help Reduce Growing Pains

HOUSTON, April 8, 2002

Executives leading emerging enterprises often experience uncertainty when wrestling with critical IT investment decisions needed to enhance their company's ability to store and process growing amounts of customer information. However, BrickMill Marketing Services and Highbridge Capital Management—emerging enterprises with fewer than 1,000 employees—are using Compaq StorageWorks solutions to sustain their growing businesses.

"Savvy small business owners are realizing the benefits that storage technology solutions have to offer," said Jim Milton, general manager and executive vice president of North America sales and marketing. "Compaq is delivering innovative open networked storage solutions that give customers unparalleled information access, management, and protection that maximizes their technology investment."

BrickMill Marketing Services

BrickMill Marketing Services is a direct marketing agency based in Nashua, NH, that helps nonprofit organizations communicate and build relationships with donors and members. "Today, nonprofit organizations are tapping BrickMill's database marketing expertise to manage the sophisticated, high-volume direct marketing campaigns needed to reach their members and donors," said Les Hubbard, BrickMill's managing director. "Compaq storage technology supports our rapidly expanding business and provides us with the capability to grow to terabytes of data storage."

BrickMill recently purchased Compaq's StorageWorks Modular SAN Array 1000 with Enterprise Backup Solution. This technology is the first generation two-gigabyte fibre channel storage system designed for the entry level to mid-range Storage Area Network (SAN). The system is designed to reduce the complexity, expense and risk of SAN deployments in a mixed server environment and offers a scalable, high performance storage system that protects BrickMill's IT investment.

Highbridge Capital Management

Situated on Wall Street, Highbridge Capital Management—an investment management company—utilizes Compaq's products and services to support the company's infrastructure. "Compaq is a leader in providing business critical solutions in the finance industry," said Jonathan Zhukovsky, Highbridge Capital Management. "Compaq supports our growing portfolio management and transactional processing needs."

Highbridge recently purchased a Compaq StorageWorks RAID 4100 SAN solution. According to Zhukovsky, Compaq delivered a uniquely affordable SAN that supports multiple software platforms such as Microsoft Windows 2000 and Linux operating systems. Through Compaq Financial Services, Highbridge leases their equipment and receives a technology refresh every 36 months to ensure that their company is reaping the benefits of the latest technology.

"We create superior business value for our customers by pioneering information storage solutions," said Compaq's Milton. " These solutions are affordable, scalable, and support the dynamic IT needs of businesses of all sizes and industries."
