New E-Catalog Offers Monthly Specials and Promotions to Compaq Small and Medium Business Customers

E-Catalog Promotes Brand to Existing and Prospective Customers

HOUSTON, March 25, 2002

This month Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) launched its new SMB e-catalog by e-mailing it to existing and prospective database customers. The new e-catalog is free and complements existing marketing channels to promote specials and promotions of Compaq desktops, notebooks, servers and options. Additionally, customers visiting the Web site can register to win thousands of dollars in Compaq products.

"The new e-catalog complements our existing go-to-market sales strategies that include online, telesales, and partner-led sales," said Dan Busse, director of marketing in Compaq's North America SMB operations. "We want to ensure we are competitive by providing customers with multiple ways to do business with Compaq."

Compaq will continue to use traditional marketing tools such as print advertising in national and daily publications for its weekly "Business Tuesday" promotions. Compaq will also continue to use business reply cards and ad placements in select trade magazines and business journals. The new e-catalog is designed to serve as a 'one-stop-shop' to help reduce costs and eliminate multiple e-mails going to customers. E-catalog helps Compaq track purchases and click-through rates, and helps determine which products and services are most attractive to customers. "We will closely monitor the effectiveness of the e-catalog to ensure continuity with our other marketing efforts," said Busse. "We anticipate e-catalog will attract entrepreneurs and small business owners who enjoy the convenience of shopping online."
