Compaq ProLiant Servers to Power Nation's Fastest Growing School District in $2 Million Technology Upgrade

Compaq Integral to Education Plan for Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada

HOUSTON and LAS VEGAS, March 6, 2002

The nation's fastest growing school district, Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV, has named Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) its vendor of choice for a $2 million server upgrade.

Clark County Schools, which standardized on Compaq servers three years ago, recently purchased and deployed 175 additional industry-standard Compaq ProLiant ML530 servers. This new technology upgrade will take the District from Netware 4.x to 5.x. Additionally, the district has installed Compaq file servers in the more than 20 new schools that have opened over the last two years.

George Warren, Compaq director of K-12 education, termed the extension of the multi-year relationship with Clark County Schools an educational partnership that underscores growing awareness in the marketplace of Compaq's commitment to education.

"Compaq has the depth and breath of product line and services that can help this rapidly expanding school district scale its technology infrastructure to meet its educational goals," said Warren. "Our ability to deliver end-to-end educational solutions—including Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs, performance-optimized industry standard ProLiant servers, and services, along with educational content through Bonus Points, LearningPaqs and partnerships with Edmin.com and Classroom Connect—is what distinguishes Compaq from other vendors in the market."

The Compaq ProLiant ML530 servers going to Clark County Schools are optimized for performance and reliability and come with Compaq Intelligent Manageability tools, including SmartStart and Insight Manager. The Compaq SmartStart tools enable schools to configure their ProLiant servers, and install the latest operating systems and drivers easily and quickly. The District also uses Compaq Insight Manager to proactively monitor overall system health, reducing system management costs, improving operational efficiency, and minimizing downtime. The ProLiant ML530 server delivers a balanced systems architecture designed to optimize functionality for Novell NetWare and the District's demanding applications.

Clark County School District

The fastest growing school district in the nation has 266 school sites, including 16 that were added just last year. The District is responsible for educating 246,000 students with 25,000 employees.
