Compaq AlphaServer ES45 with Tru64 UNIX Sets New Performance Level in SAP® APO Standard Application Benchmark (Advisory)

HOUSTON, January 14, 2002

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) announced today that an AlphaServer ES45 system running Tru64 UNIX has established a new performance level for quad-processor systems in the SAP® Advanced Planner and Optimizer (SAP APO) two-tier Demand Planning Version 3.0A Standard Application benchmark.

The AlphaServer ES45 system achieved a level of 110,489 planned characteristic combinations per hour on aggregated level, the highest total to date for a four-processor system. The outstanding result also establishes a new transaction per processor performance mark.

"This benchmark further demonstrates the ability of Compaq, in concert with SAP, to meet the most demanding business requirements and robust infrastructure needs of supply chain management solutions," said Rich Marcello, vice president and general manager of Compaq's High Performance Systems Division. "Through collaborative testing and implementation, Compaq and SAP continue to provide the high-performance, reliable and scalable solutions that enable our customers to make better business decisions."

The APO benchmark is another demonstration of the performance capabilities of the AlphaServer ES45 system running Tru64 UNIX.

An AlphaServer ES45 system with four 1 GHz Alpha processors was used for the SAP APO benchmark using 32 GB of memory and 8 MB of L2 cache. The benchmark combined the mySAP™ Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM) cross-industry solution and SAP APO 3.0A, liveCache, version 7.2.5, and Oracle version 8.1.6 to achieve the SAP APO Standard Application benchmark result of 110,489 planned characteristic combinations per hour.

The SAP Advanced Planner and Optimizer benchmark is recognized as an outstanding test of the scientific number-crunching performance critical to achieving rapid response in supply chain environments. The SAP APO Standard Application benchmark simulates conditions of 10,000 different products from 10 different distribution centers bought by 2,000 different customers. The benchmark demonstrates the power of AlphaServer systems with Tru64 UNIX running SAP liveCache, which demands large memory. SAP liveCache is a key element in SAP APO that provides real-time performance. This increased performance multiplied across supply chain business processes can give organizations tangible benefits that can be reflected in true returns on their solution investments.
