HP Wins
More Than $500 Million in Government Contracts in EMEA
HP Expands Its Public
Sector Installed Based to More Than 200 Customers Across Europe
GENEVA, Nov. 28, 2002
HP
(NYSE:HPQ) today announced major government contract wins
worth more than $500 million in Europe, Middle East and Africa
(EMEA).
These wins, which include new customers and major incremental
projects for existing public sector customers, include the
State Treasury of Slovakia, ANPE in France, Belgian Federal
Portal, the Swedish Government, the Ministry of the Interior
in Bulgaria and the European Parliament.
"For the past 40 years, the public sector has been a
key focus area for HP.
Today it is an $80 billion market in EMEA with predicted growth
rates of 9.2 percent for the next two years," said Kasper
Rorsted, managing director, HP
EMEA. "As governments are taking big steps forward towards
building the ‘Information Society,' HP
is helping the European Union achieve its vision to become
the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in
the world. For citizens and businesses, this means ready and
easy access to information and services enabled through the
use of technology."
Working closely with key partners, HP
offers the widest IT product and solution portfolio, as well
as consulting, customer support and project management to
enable governments to optimize their services for the information
and knowledge society.
Details of the new wins include:
- HP has been chosen
to provide the information system for the State Treasury
of Slovakia. This system is designed to bring more transparency
and efficiency to the finance management of the Slovak Republic
and is one of the critical success factors for European
Union integration in the public finance management and control
area. Serving more than 3,000 users around Slovakia, the
system includes software solutions for expenditure management,
financial planning, accounts management, accounting, payments,
asset management and liquidity and debt management. HP
also will design and implement a complete security solution.
- The National Employment Agency (ANPE) in France has
chosen HP for the next
two years as their preferred supplier for a project to provide
24-hour online service for its 22,000 users throughout France.
The solution includes UNIX® systems: HP
Superdome and associated HP
StorageWorks XP512 storage for consolidation of national
applications of the French Employment Agency.
- As part of a consortium, HP
is providing the complete IT infrastructure and outsourcing
services to allow guaranteed scalability and reliability
required for the Belgian Federal Portal to become a transactional
platform. The portal will enable Belgian citizens to execute
administrative transactions and submit forms online and
to access governmental information.
- HP has signed a
new four-year agreement to provide the Swedish Parliament
with a secure IT and communications infrastructure. The
solution, which is designed around HP
Mobile Open roaming, contains everything from broadband
communications and mobile phones to portable computers with
smart card access and printers connected to centrally placed
HP ProLiant servers.
The new solution is designed to provide the 360 members
of the Swedish Parliament mobile, secure and standardized
access to parliament's IT network and databases from anywhere
in Sweden.
- HP has won a new
contract agreement with the Republic of Bulgaria's Ministry
of the Interior to upgrade and support the system that allows
the government to issue all nationals with new secure ID
cards, passports and drivers licenses. The solution included
the installation of a new information infrastructure that
linked 140 different sites, with centrally managed security,
usage and backup solutions. It supports real-time monitoring
and control of materials used in production, thus ensuring
security of the process.
- HP, as part of a consortium, has been awarded a contract
to deliver email services to the European Parliament. This
builds on an earlier contract, won in October 2001, to deliver
9,000 PCs.
These new contracts build on HP's
extensive experience in the public sector, which spans more
than 40 years developing solutions for more than 200 government
organizations. This includes projects such as:
- Hospital son Llatzer foundation, Spain's newest hospital,
which has installed the latest and most advanced HP
Hospital Information System. The hospital aims to set up
a national standard for using information systems to improve
healthcare delivery, enabling better use of material and
human resources, and successfully integrating clinical and
administrative processes.
- In response to public demand to see a more visible police
presence on the streets, Wiltshire Constabulary Police in
the UK chose HP to
design a new information management system that delivers
customized information to desktops and mobile devices enabling
officers to complete administrative tasks from home, a patrol
vehicle or in the street. With statistics showing 47 percent
of officers' time was spent in the police station, this
solution is designed to put police officers back on the
beat.
- HP is working with
the Ministry of Defence in the UK to improve communications
across the three national armed forces and with other international
organizations. The comprehensive new infrastructure solution
and associated systems provides the adaptability and robustness
required for a nation's defence force. HP
also is working with other European defense departments
such as those in France and Germany.
