HP 's Digital "Do-over" Contest Offers Chance to Re-live Special Event Photography Horror Stories Rewarded for up to $10,000 PALO ALTO, Calif., March 5, 2002 A recent survey by Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) found that two out of three Americans have developed a roll of film only to be disappointed that all or some of the pictures didn't come out. The good news about "bad" photos is that HP is announcing the HP Digital Do-over Contest, giving people the chance to turn their nightmare experiences with traditional photography into moneymakers and to learn about the benefits of digital imaging. The contest invites people who "missed" a special event because of problems with traditional cameras, such as overexposure, blurry images and red-eye, to submit their horror stories for judging. HP will re-do the winner's event -- whether a family reunion, a honeymoon or any other event -- for up to $10,000 and provide HP digital imaging solutions to ensure that photos from the do-over event are safely and easily captured, saved, shared and printed. "With spring and summer holidays, vacations and family get-togethers coming up, now is the time to go digital," said Robin Raskin, consumer technology expert. "Digital cameras make it simple to capture photos, and the fun often starts after the click because digital imaging makes it easy to share and print photos to make creative keepsakes, such as scrapbooks and T-shirts." "Today's digital photography solutions dramatically reduce the risk that problems associated with traditional film photography will ruin capturing a special occasion. For instance, users can instantly see whether they captured that 'magic moment' as it happens," said Jeff Hopper, marketing director, HP Digital Imaging Organization. "As a leader in digital imaging solutions that make it simple and fun to safeguard and share memories, HP thought the contest would be a great way to highlight the benefits of digital photography." Contest judging will be based on the magnitude of the nightmare experience and the informative and entertaining nature of the entry. HP also will award an HP photo lab with photo printer, scanner and digital camera (valued at approximately $600) to two runners-up. How to Enter In essays of 500 words or less, entrants should describe their nightmarish special event photo experience. Each entry should include:
Robin Raskin's digital imaging tips also are featured on the contest site, providing consumers with valuable suggestions for capturing the perfect picture digitally -- and avoiding future nightmare photo experiences.
