Celebrities Send Video Messages of Thanks to American Heroes in 'Every Uniform'

HOUSTON, December 5, 2001

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Craig T. Nelson, Burt Reynolds, Ann-Margret, Bo Derek, Michael Bolton, Buzz Aldrin, Andy Garcia, B.B. King, Diahann Carroll, General Hugh Shelton, The Houston Rockets, The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Utah Senators Orrin Hatch and Robert Bennett, The Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks and football legend Steve Young are all participating in Give Thanks America this week. As celebrity digital video messages are created, they will be available for public viewing on the initiative's Web site at www.GiveThanksAmerica.com.

"It is particularly significant when outstanding celebrities and personalities such as these use their popularity to promote patriotism at times like these," said Michael Capellas, chairman and CEO of Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ), sponsor of the initiative along with technology partners Sorenson Media and Digital Island, a Cable & Wireless company. "We are pleased to donate the technology that enables celebrities and the public to reach out to men and women in every uniform."

Give Thanks America allows Americans to record and send digital video e-mail messages of support and thanks to military personnel deployed in harm's way as well as to other American heroes in uniform such as fire and police officers. The Department of Defense is providing logistics and communications support.

The three-day initiative was launched simultaneously in New York and Washington, D.C. on Dec. 4. Similar three-day events will launch on Dec. 7 in nine additional cities: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, San Diego and San Jose.

In addition, a mobile tour will launch on Dec. 8 at The Alamo in San Antonio, with scheduled one-day stops in El Paso, Tucson, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Lawton (OK) and Killeen (TX).

Plans are being made to involve other locations around the country in January. For more information on sites and times, please visit www.GiveThanksAmerica.com.
