Compaq Announces New Intranet Offerings That Maximize Business Efficiency

HOUSTON, November 27, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced a comprehensive set of offerings, complementing Microsoft's Solution for Intranets. The new solutions and services enable increases in business productivity and business process efficiency and empower employees of any organization to easily create, locate and share knowledge within a team, across multiple business divisions, and even throughout a global enterprise.

The new offerings utilize market-leading(1) Compaq ProLiant servers and Compaq StorageWorks, and include a complete portfolio of intranet lifecycle services from Compaq Global Services. Compaq has also performed extensive testing and characterization of its industry-standard ProLiant servers running the Microsoft Solution for Intranets software, which will speed implementation and reduce risk for the customers.

"The new Compaq intranet offerings enable customers to maximize their investments in the Microsoft Solution for Intranets software by providing a complete, end-to-end solution backed by Compaq's competency and experience in delivering solutions based on Microsoft technology," said Rhonda Rubinstein, acting vice president of solutions, Compaq Industry Standard Server Group. "The Microsoft Solution for Intranets was developed and tested on Compaq ProLiant servers so customers can expect to achieve optimal performance when deploying the solution on ProLiant servers."

"Compaq's leading combination of Global Services professionals and a strong history of delivering enterprise-class computing platforms running Microsoft software well positions our customers to achieve impressive productivity gains based on an intranet customized to their specific business requirements," said Jeff Teper, general manager of the portal business group at Microsoft. "Our long-standing FrontLine partnership with Compaq ensures that customers can deploy highly optimized and fully supported Microsoft Solution for Intranets."

The Compaq Solution

Compaq Global Services provides a complete portfolio of services to help customers deploy intranet portal solutions including portal planning and design services, rapid pilot services, and portal implementation and integration services. Compaq has also developed a new focused service, called the Intranet Start-up Workshop, designed to provide customers with a roadmap in getting started with the Microsoft Solution for Intranets. This workshop assesses customer needs and provides a specific, detailed recommendation for a Microsoft-based intranet solution.

"We've been exceedingly fortunate to have the skill and expertise of Compaq Global Services, in whom we could entrust our needs and feel assured that they would deliver what was required on time and within budget," said Sara Windsor, senior network engineer for Tracy Unified School District. "They helped us identify the ways in which the Microsoft Solution for Intranets could assist the District, and then they helped design and implement the solution using Compaq hardware."

Compaq has trained services professionals at multiple Solution Centers worldwide, and has established specific expertise in intranet solutions at Solution Centers located in Washington, D.C.; Dublin, Ireland; and Utrecht, The Netherlands.

The Compaq solution and service offerings for intranets, including the Intranet Start-up Workshop, are available today worldwide.
