Compaq Releases New Report on Business Continuity and IT Recovery Planning (Advisory)

HOUSTON, October 30, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today released a new and in-depth report on business continuity and disaster recovery planning. The report, written by a certified business continuity planner, and based on the Disaster Recovery Institute International's recommended activities for continuity planning, details for enterprises the planning and processes needed to develop a business continuity plan to minimize the impact of disasters.

The report also highlights the important distinction between business continuity and disaster recovery planning, and includes short descriptions of the products and solutions that Compaq offers across all product lines.

In today's business environment where a vast amount of critical business functions are tied to computer systems, disaster recovery planning is evolving toward business continuity planning. A well-defined and workable business continuity plan is vital to the survival of an enterprise. Without it, IT disaster recovery plans restore hardware and applications, but not the business facilities, operations or processes that use them.

Compaq—through its expertise and experience powering business critical systems such as 88 percent of the world's stock exchanges and 95 percent of all securities transactions—has the know how, technologies and business processes in place to keep enterprises running in the wake of disasters.

For details on building business continuity plans, from risk analysis and impact evaluation to emergency response and escalation to implementation and execution, go to the "Business Continuity: Ensuring Survival" report at the Compaq Web site at: http://nonstop.compaq.com/view.asp?IOID=4492
