Compaq and ACI Worldwide Accelerate Mobile Commerce with New, Scalable Mobile Payments Solution

LONDON, September 26, 2001

At Mobile Commerce World Europe 2001, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) and ACI Worldwide (Nasdaq: TSAI) today announced an important development for mobile commerce. The two companies have agreed to combine their technologies into an integrated, entry-level solution that targets the emerging mobile payment (mPayment) market. The new solution enables mobile service providers and banks, individually or in partnership, to implement rapidly a secure mobile payment service for their customers, with little impact on their existing systems.

Customers accessing the service with their mobile phones will be able to make payment for goods and services, anytime, anywhere, safe in the knowledge that their payments are secure.

The fully integrated solution consists of ACI's powerful BASE24® software to process and manage electronic payment transactions running on the reliable, scalable Compaq NonStopHimalaya™ platform. BASE24 is used by more than 340 customers around the world to manage devices, route and switch transactions, and provide authorization support for high-volume payments processing. Well known as the world's most reliable, scalable platform, NonStop Himalaya servers lead the off-switch intelligent network (IN) market with over 450 service control points (SCPs) at numerous carriers around the world.

Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly sell and deliver the mPayment solution throughout EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa). The solution is available today.

Jenny Newton, vice president, EMEA, Compaq Telecom Division, said, "mPayment services are an area that everyone is looking at, as telcos, banks and service providers evolve their business models for the 21st century. Mobile payments represent a new revenue stream that operators can realize, even though GPRS-based services are generally delayed." Newton added, "Even in the short term, new services will provide operators with a means to attract new customers and reduce churn."

"This joint venture further strengthens ACI's long-term partnership with Compaq. Through this joint solution, we are providing consumers with the convenience and freedom to purchase goods and services at any time, through their mobile phone, safe in the knowledge that the transaction will be secure," said Jim Tomaney, marketing director, EMEA, ACI Worldwide.

Single Platform Delivers Key Advantages for Mobile Operators and Banks

The integrated Compaq and ACI solutions can be deployed using any GSM phone on the market today, and because the solutions are not closely coupled to any GSM technology, they will also co-exist with any new GSM technology brought online, including GPRS and UMTS. This means that a mobile payment system implemented today will still operate even when the mobile networks evolve to new technologies.

The mPayment solution leverages the inherent scalability of the NonStop Himalaya and BASE24, thus allowing the operator to get to market quickly with a small cost-effective solution that can grow and scale to accommodate the largest transaction volumes projected, backed by the security of the world's leading e-payment solution—BASE24 running on NonStop servers.
