Compaq Delivers Power, Performance and Value with New Presario 1200 Notebooks (Advisory)

HOUSTON, September 17, 2001

Continuing its commitment to provide home and small office customers a combination of exceptional value and powerful, leading-edge performance, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced immediate availability of new Presario 1200 series notebook computers featuring AMD Athlon 4® Mobile 1.1 GHz and AMD Duron® 900 MHz processors.

Aggressively priced starting at $1,399(1) for a 1.1 GHz model, the sleek all-in-one design of the new Presario 1200 series offers consumers and small offices both design and affordability. It incorporates convenient features such as a built-in 10/100 Ethernet port, which enables connecting directly to a network or high-speed Internet access service. The new Presario 1200 also features battery-extending AMD PowerNow! Technology which dynamically optimizes the notebook for performance or battery life. System configurations include a choice of a 13.3" XGA or 14.1" XGA display; up to a 30GB UltraDMA hard drive; CD, DVD, CD-RW, or DVD/CDRW combo drive; a 56K V.90 modem and up to 320MB of 133 MHz memory.

The new Compaq Presario 1200 series notebooks are also Microsoft® Windows® XP ready. Customers can enjoy all the benefits of owning a Presario 1200 today without having to wait for the new operating system to become available. The new Presario 1200 series notebooks meet all the minimum hardware requirements to make it easy to upgrade to Windows XP when released.
