Compaq Provides Anytime, Anywhere Accessibility, Availability and Scalability for Novell NetWare 6 on ProLiant Servers

ATLANTA, September 11, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced that its market-leading Compaq ProLiant™ servers will support the new Novell NetWare 6 operating system. As part of its support, Compaq will extend its directory management, fault and performance management, and high availability offerings to include updated eDirectory Collection Agent and Compaq Management Agents for ProLiant servers, and ProLiant Cluster Kits for NetWare 6. By providing continued support and optimization on ProLiant servers for customers that plan to deploy NetWare 6 servers, Compaq will deliver simple solutions that enable customers to maximize their resources, to plan for change and growth, and to ensure continuous operations.

As the primary development platform for NetWare 6, ProLiant servers provide the highest levels of continuous operations and investment protection for server and storage infrastructure available. Compaq solutions for NetWare 6 enable customers to simplify access to and management of resources, secure the integrity and availability of digital assets, and accelerate the scalability of enterprise networks.

"With long-time partners like Novell, Compaq enables customers to easily implement changes to their computing environments while protecting their long-term investment in optimized ProLiant servers," said Rick Becker, vice president, Software Business Development, Compaq Industry Standard Server Group. "As the largest global supplier of NetWare server platforms, Compaq ensures the delivery of highly integrated, simple solutions that help customers focus on maximizing their business."

"By working with Compaq to develop and test NetWare 6, Novell can provide a solution that customers can depend on for maximum performance and reliability," said Michael Simpson, vice president of Novell's platform solutions team. "The combination of Compaq ProLiant servers and NetWare delivers trusted solutions for delivering the one Net vision to enterprise network environments."

Managing Information from Anywhere on the Network

The new Compaq eDirectory Collection Agent enables customers that deploy eDirectory and Compaq Management Agents for NetWare to simplify inventory management by automating the collection of hardware asset data for ProLiant platforms running NetWare 6. The Compaq eDirectory Collection Agent implements server and client-based components that build upon the functionality of Compaq Management Agents to gather and view detailed hardware configuration and revision data, and populate the directory from anywhere on the network.

The updated Compaq Management Agents for NetWare 6 will provide enhanced Web-based fault and performance management for ProLiant servers including NIC, memory, CPU, disk and environmental status and alerts. The Compaq Management Agents for NetWare also enable easy access remotely through NetScape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, as well as from within Compaq Insight Manager XE.

Delivering Unparalleled Levels of Uptime and Performance

The new ProLiant Cluster Kits for NetWare 5.1 and NetWare 6 will be available in October. The two-to-twelve node cluster solutions will allow ProLiant server configurations to be deployed with the highest levels of computing power, and with the maximum flexibility and efficiency available in industry-standard environments. The new ProLiant Cluster Kits for Novell will also deliver the highest levels of uptime and performance for customers who require continuous operations and need storage consolidation. Compaq ProLiant Clusters for NetWare are comprised of Compaq ProLiant Servers, StorageWorks Storage Arrays, NetWare and Novell Cluster Services Software.
