Smurfit-Stone Container Chooses CompuCom to Deliver Compaq ProLiant Servers for Manufacturing Platform HOUSTON and DALLAS, August 20, 2001 Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) a leading global provider of enterprise technology and solutions, and CompuCom, a leading digital infrastructure solutions provider (NASDAQ: CMPC), today announced that Smurfit-Stone Container has signed a two-year, $5 million agreement with CompuCom to equip its North American manufacturing plants with Compaq industry-standard ProLiant™ servers. Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation (NASDAQ: SSCC) is the world's largest integrated producer of paperboard and paper-based packaging products. "Building on our relationship with a customer like Smurfit-Stone Container is a great opportunity for Compaq," said Jerry Earle, Central Region vice president, Compaq. "The reliability, manageability and performance of Compaq's market-leading ProLiant servers and unequaled Front Line Partnership with Microsoft, combined with CompuCom's systems integration and outsourcing expertise enables us to create solutions for Smurfit that other competitors just can't match," Earle concluded. According to the agreement, CompuCom will replace the servers in each of Smurfit's 330 North American manufacturing plants with Compaq ProLiant ML 370 servers over the next two years as part of their standard IT refresh. Product Reliability, Customer Loyalty "We chose the Compaq ProLiant servers based on the quality of the product and Compaq's close partnership with Microsoft," said Steve Atchison, LAN Services manager, Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. "We are implementing Microsoft Active Directory in our operations, and it was very important to us to have a reliable, highly scalable server architecture that was well-proven on the Microsoft platform. We were looking for a technology partner that would share in the risk-reward, not just a technology vendor. Compaq and CompuCom have proven they fit that role." As the founder of the industry-standard server market, Compaq ProLiant servers have established a vast and loyal customer base worldwide. By fostering a close relationship with its customers through extensive customer and channel programs that drive innovation, Compaq has established a consistency and trademark reliability that customers and solutions providers seek out. "We are pleased that Smurfit-Stone continues to choose CompuCom to deliver strategic technology solutions for their enterprise," said Anthony Pellegrini, senior vice president of Sales at CompuCom. "Developing sound technology solutions for our clients begins with a quality hardware platform such as Compaq's ProLiant server." About CompuCom Systems, Inc.
