Compaq Designated a Technology and Service Provider Partner by CSC on NSA Groundbreaker Contract

HOUSTON, August 3, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) has been designated a Technology and Service Delivery Partner on the Project Groundbreaker contract awarded to Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) by the National Security Agency (NSA). Compaq is the only manufacturer named a Technology and Service Delivery Partner in the CSC alliance. The agreement with CSC represents one of Compaq's largest contracts in the Federal marketplace.

The overall Groundbreaker contract is projected to be worth $2 billion to CSC and runs for an initial term of seven years with options that could extend it to 10 years. The overall value of the contract to Compaq depends on the equipment that the NSA purchases. Compaq will provide hardware and professional services to NSA to upgrade its technology in Washington, D.C.

"This validates Compaq's strong movement into the role of long-term integrator of IT enterprise solutions for the federal government," said Ron Ross, president of Compaq Federal LLC. "We are the only company that can offer the government end-to-end solutions, from the innovative wireless iPAQ™ Pocket PC to the largest and most complex supercomputer. Coupled with our Global Services group we can provide complete IT enterprise support including architectural design, systems engineering, equipment, and support."

Compaq has been assured representation on the Architectural Group for the term of the Groundbreaker contract, which will provide Compaq the opportunity to showcase its engineering excellence, the depth and breath of its hardware families, and services capabilities to provide NSA with the best enterprisewide solution.
