Compaq Punches into High Gear with First Presario and Evo Notebooks Featuring New Mobile Intel Pentium III Processor-M SAN FRANCISCO, July 30, 2001 Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ), a global enterprise technology and solutions company, today announced availability of the Compaq Presario™ 1700 series featuring the latest Mobile Intel® Pentium® III processor-M with speeds up to 1.13 GHz. Compaq also previewed the Evo™ Notebook N600c, a newly designed thin and light notebook featuring the innovative MultiPort integrated wireless solution. Targeted at the growing thin and light notebook segment, both the Presario 1700 and Evo N600c notebooks combine exceptional battery life with optimum size and weight to provide mobile users the perfect balance of performance and convenience. "Customers of the new Evo and Presario notebooks will marvel at the performance delivered in such a thin and light design," said Alex Gruzen, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Division in Compaq's Access Business Group. Compaq Presario 1700 The sleek and stylish Compaq Presario 1700 was designed for the home or small office. This powerful, yet thin and light, notebook features high-resolution 14" TFT screens and weighs just over 5 lbs. It also sports advanced features such as the new ATI Mobility Radeon™ graphics, an integrated IEEE 1394 port for high-speed video capture, and up to 48GB hard drives. The Intel Pentium III processor-M at 933 MHz is available in the Presario 1700 starting at $1549 and the Intel Pentium III processor-M at 1.13 GHz is available starting at $1849(1). Compaq Evo N600c The Compaq Evo N600c was designed for corporate customers who demand a high-performance, durable, lightweight notebook. In addition to the latest Mobile Intel Pentium III processor-M, the Evo N600c features a DDR (double data rate) graphics adapter for high-resolution images, magnesium alloy casing for strength and durability, and a fresh ergonomic design for ease of use. The Evo Notebook N600c also features Compaq's innovative MultiPort, an optional modular wireless solution that provides Compaq commercial notebook PC users wireless connectivity through an integrated plug-and-play Universal Serial Bus (USB) port integral to the notebook. Evo notebook users simply change out the MultiPort module based on their wireless needs. MultiPort modules are available with either an 802.11b or Bluetooth wireless solution. The MultiPort is compatible with the Evo Notebook N400c, and provides users with future expansion capabilities.
