New Customer Engagement Center Offers Customers First-Hand Look at World-Class Tech Support

HOUSTON, June 20, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced the expansion of its Global Services operations by opening a new Customer Engagement Center in Cypress, Texas, where customers can go behind the scenes to see world-class support capabilities in action.

Customers can tour the 675,000-square-foot Cypress Customer Support Center (CSC), which houses more than 600 of Compaq's 38,000 services professionals. The facility extends Compaq's capabilities to showcase total, cost-effective business-critical hardware and software support; service quality assurance monitoring; Internet services; and desktop/portable, workstation and server support.

The newest center joins four other Compaq customer centers in North America, and 10 others worldwide, to operate as a single virtual customer service center—providing world-class, 24-hour, 365-day support in more than 200 countries.

"The new service center enables customers to meet our technical experts and see for themselves our industry-leading, proactive tools and processes at work," said ML Krakauer, vice president, North America for Compaq Global Services. "Our service capabilities support Compaq's overall strategy in the marketplace and constitute an important competitive advantage as they enable Compaq to deliver total solutions to customers."

With more than 40 years of experience in providing IT services, Compaq Global Services is one of the largest and most experienced global service organizations in the world. In 2000 in North America alone, Compaq's support centers responded to 8.5 million calls—one call every 3.7 seconds—and delivered another 8 million electronic solutions using online support tools.

"Compaq has all of the elements for success—leading-edge enterprise products and a world-class services organization," said Geoff Nyheim, general manager of Global Partners at Microsoft. "Compaq Global Services is a true leader in the design, deployment, and support of enterprise solutions using Microsoft's platforms with a long-standing dedication to customer satisfaction in the enterprise."
