Compaq and JJWILD Are First in Market with MEDITECH's MAGIC on Windows 2000 HOUSTON, June 7, 2001 In a market leading move, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) and JJWILD, Canton, MA, have launched the first implementation of healthcare software giant MEDITECH's MAGIC healthcare operating system to be certified on Microsoft's Windows 2000® and Intel® architecture via industry-leading Compaq ProLiant servers. The new platform offers MEDITECH's MAGIC customers unprecedented flexibility in managing and growing their MAGIC platforms and enterprise storage systems, while allowing common system management strategies with client server technology. JJWILD, MEDITECH's preferred integrator and long-time corporate technology partner, designed the platform architecture using density-optimized, rack-mounted Compaq ProLiant servers. To be known as "SixGun" from JJWILD, this implementation is also certified on Compaq's StorageWorks RAID and SAN technology, affording unequaled scalability to the healthcare market. "With JJWILD's and Compaq's help, our new platform design for MAGIC applications achieves our objective of a common systems platform for MAGIC and C/S MAGIC," said Steve Koretz, vice president of MAGIC Development at MEDITECH. "Using Intel, Microsoft, and Compaq StorageWorks and ProLiant servers as common design elements, customers may now employ the same management tools and share the storage (SAN) environment throughout the enterprise. It's great to have partners like JJWILD and Compaq who understand the software environment so well and know how to deploy it." "Healthcare organizations want cost-effective, best-of-breed solutions that can be deployed rapidly and successfully and are based on proven, integrated technologies. That's how they maximize return on investment," said David Parsons, vice president, North America E-Business Solutions & Alliances at Compaq. "We've met that demand through our collaboration with JJWILD and MEDITECH to deploy MAGIC on Compaq ProLiant servers and Compaq storage technology. This announcement demonstrates the value of our partnership with JJWILD and MEDITECH to our shared customersand the value of Compaq's leadership in delivering Intel and Windows based solutions to the healthcare industry." JJWILD's SixGun uses identical RAID, SAN, and server technology to what Compaq offers MEDITECH's client/server applications, and packages as many as six ProLiant industry standard servers together with the customer's choice of Compaq's Direct Attached RAID or StorageWorks Open SAN storage in a single rack. The new platform offers MAGIC customers unprecedented flexibility in managing and growing their MAGIC platforms while allowing for common system management strategies with client/server technology. Performance is maximized leveraging the latest 1.0 GHz and higher Intel Pentium® III processors, 100 Mbps server NICs, and the acclaimed Reliance bus technology for maximizing server input/output. Customers may choose Compaq's Smart Array DAS RAID technology and upgrade these components later to a SAN configuration, or they may implement a StorageWorks switched SAN environment for MEDITECH MAGIC, which can be extended to embrace enterprise-level storage consolidation, security, and management requirements. New choices in backup provide for integration of DLT or AIT tape technology.
