Compaq Offers Enhancements for Award-Winning iPAQ Pocket PC (Advisory)

HOUSTON, April 9, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced a new retail version of the iPAQ Pocket PC monochrome series, as well as a variety of new accessories for the iPAQ Pocket PC family, available in select retail locations this week. The company also announced enhancements to the iPAQ Pocket PC Developers Program.

Compaq unveiled a new monochrome iPAQ Pocket PC bundle for $399, available in retail locations in mid-April. The new retail version of the iPAQ Pocket PC, the H3135, comes standard with a CompactFlash (CF) Expansion Pack, which allows customers to use CF cards to increase the file storage space on their iPAQ Pocket PC. This also enables users to gain access to their company's network for e-mail and Web browsing using an optional CF Ethernet cable or CF modem. Extra software includes Peacemaker Professional, a cross-platform infrared exchange utility that beams information to and from a wide range of PDA devices. Peacemaker allows iPAQ Pocket PC users to update their address books, exchange tasks, swap memos or schedule appointments with other PDA products. For more information, see http://www.compaq.com/handhelds/pocketpc/.

iPAQ Pocket PC users can now use their mobile phones as a modem for the Pocket PC with the new RS-232 serial cable and their cellular phone's serial data cable. The RS-232 cable adds a fast serial COM port to the iPAQ Pocket PC that attaches to most cellular phones to enable wireless data communication with the Internet or a corporate intranet. In addition, a selection of colorful accessories such as an expandable Sports Case and color styli to accompany the iPAQ Pocket PC Color Style Packs are also now available. The company also unveiled enhancements to the iPAQ Pocket PC Developers Program, including three new tools — the iPAQ Developer Source Kit CD-ROM, the iPAQ Developer Sample Kit and the iPAQ Expansion Pack Holder Kit — that provide information and materials to make it easier to develop iPAQ Pocket PC Expansion Packs or other iPAQ Pocket PC hardware and software solutions. Information on the iPAQ Developers Program is available through the Compaq Solutions Alliance at http://csa.compaq.com/index.html.
