Compaq First to Achieve 10,000th SAP Implementation HOUSTON, April 2, 2001 Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced that it achieved its 10,000th implementation of mySAP applications worldwide at Unilever, a leading global FMCG company. The first to reach this unprecedented milestone, Compaq once again demonstrates its leadership as a global enterprise solutions provider to help customers reduce risk and speed up implementation time of business-critical computing. Compaq's tremendous success with SAP enterprise applications is the result of its strong relationships with SAP and the investments both companies have made to optimize Compaq platforms to run mySAP applications. "Compaq is proud of winning our 10,000th SAP installation. Compaq and Unilever will work as a team to ensure that all geographies are rolled into this production system in the timescales provided by the business and application centers, said Karl-Heinz Cypris, director of global SAP alliance." The 10,000th SAP installation consists of standard building blocks of Compaq GS Series AlphaServers for database servers, Compaq ES series AlphaServers for application servers, and StorageWorks for the Storage Area Networks (SAN). Compaq's expertise with the design of multiplatform environments was instrumental in delivering this system to Unilever. Once completed, the Unilever implementation will be one of the largest mySAP.com installations in the world, supporting 55,000 users throughout Europe. "Unilever GIO-ES (Global Infrastructure Organisation-European Services) is a newly created organisation with the objective to provide a customer focused service that not only meets but also exceeds the IT infrastructure requirements of Unilever in Europe achieved through an in-depth knowledge of customer requirements. The GIO-ES has chosen Compaq as its partner to help implement this project. Compaq has provided project management, solutions architects and SAP experts to work jointly with Unilever in the development of the infrastructure, the installation of the systems and SAP onto those systems, and the handover to GIO-ES customers" said Lars Stork, Vice President and Head of GIO-ES, Unilever PLC. Services include vendor management for SAP environments, 7X24 on-site response, system health check services, remote management services, enhanced hardware/software technical support, and onsite or local spare parts inventories. In addition, Compaq has SAP Competency Centers located around the world, including Houston, Munich, Walldorf, Germany, and Tokyo. These centers help customers and partners appropriately size Compaq hardware for the long-term needs of their business.
