Compaq Announces World Record SAP Benchmark with AlphaServer GS320 and Tru64 UNIX (Advisory)

Compaq AlphaServer GS320 Achieves Unprecedented Performance Levels with SAP's Business Information Warehouse Version 2.0B

HOUSTON, January 8, 2001

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced its Compaq AlphaServer GS series achieved world record results on the SAP Business Information Warehouse™ (SAP BW) Version 2.0 B benchmark. In every measurement captured in the SAP BW benchmark suite, the AlphaServer GS dramatically outperformed previously published BW numbers.

This new performance milestone further demonstrates the speed and scalability of the AlphaServer systems for customers running high-intensity CRM and business intelligence applications solutions such as SAP's BW. The goal of SAP BW is to free the information locked up in a myriad of computer systems and operational databases, and to mix it with information from other, often external, sources of data.

Fully integrated with mySAP.com™ Marketplace and Workplace, SAP BW enables companies to maximize their return on their information investment by putting business intelligence to work. As integrated e-business environments drive requirements for faster analysis of greater amounts of data from various sources, users of these applications find they need the same type computing power traditionally reserved for Compaq's Super Computing and High Performance Technical Computing customers.

With this impressive benchmark, Compaq sets the performance bar dramatically higher for SAP BW. It also demonstrates Compaq's technology partnership with a certified SAP BW benchmark supporting SAP's initiative to provide end-to-end solutions for tomorrow's business intelligence systems.

Compaq produced SAP BW benchmark results of average throughput in 114 million rows/hour for the Load Phase (Step 1), 313 million rows per hour for the Realignment Phase (Step 2), and 207, 323 Query Navigation Steps (throughput per hour). The Query Navigation Step simulates users making queries against the SAP BW system. This number is a world record for high-end BW benchmarks on BW 2.0 B and demonstrates Compaq's competency and commitment to SAP BW.

The central system configuration consisting of an AlphaServer GS320 with 32 Alpha 21264 EV67 processors and 32 GB of memory connected to a Compaq StorageWorks storage subsystem with 1308 GB of disk space, running Tru64 UNIX Version 5.1 and Oracle8i release 8.1.6 as database outperformed expectations. This result demonstrates AlphaServer, StorageWorks technology and Tru64 UNIX leadership for Business Intelligence Applications, which are absolutely critical for the future of e-business.
