Compaq's Newest Site in Colorado Sign of Things to Come from the Leader in Storage Technology
Louisville Team Focused on Enterprise Storage Software Development HOUSTON, January 11, 2001Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) officially announced the expansion of its Enterprise Storage Group with the opening of a new storage software development facility in Louisville, located in the Cole Creek Business Park. Initially, the 12,500 square-foot office will employ approximately 50 software engineers and support staff. "The team we're building in Louisville will play a critical role in designing and testing some of Compaq's most innovative software products for managing storage systems and storage area networks," said Mark Lewis, Vice President, Enterprise Storage Software, Compaq Computer Corporation. "We are excited about the expansion of the Enterprise Storage Group operations, particularly with the location in Louisville. We know there is a concentration of talented professionals in the community." As reliance on the Internet soars, the storage area network (SAN) market is expected to expand tenfold over five years, from $2.7 billion in 1998 to $27 billion in 2003 (1). SANs provide the computing infrastructure for reliably and securely storing large volumes of information generated by business transactions, Web browsing and e-marketing. Compaq's Enterprise Storage Software develops software tools to simplify the management of storage resources. The new office in Louisville will work closely with Compaq teams in Colorado Springs, Houston, Texas, and Shrewsbury, Mass., developing products in Compaq's SANworks and StorageWorks families. Compaq in Colorado Compaq Computer Corporation currently employs more than 2,100 Coloradoans at three facilities in the Colorado Springs/Boulder County area. Colorado Springs is the primary development site for Compaq's Enterprise Storage Group SANworks and StorageWorks product lines. In August 2000, Compaq unveiled its Enterprise Storage Customer Center, a 9,500 square foot facility in Colorado Springs dedicated to Open SAN interoperability testing and customer briefings.
