HP Partners with Banta to Launch Enterprise Publishing Solution for Fortune 500 Companies Publishing Tools and Services Accelerate Transformation of Business Communications PALO ALTO, Calif., and MENASHA, Wis., Oct. 24, 2001 Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) and Banta Corporation (NYSE:BN) today announced a comprehensive enterprise publishing solution to help businesses streamline the capture, management, distribution and publishing of digital information. Using the solution, corporations will be able to deliver accurately branded and up-to-date information on any device anytime, anywhere, in the format the customer wants. HP will integrate its expertise in networking, consulting and digital print technologies with Banta's content management applications and print services. "HP and Banta are championing the technology, processes and know-how underpinning content management and delivery to transform how large organizations access and deliver digital information," said Bill McGlynn, vice president and general manager, HP Commercial Printing Solutions. "Ultimately, companies will leverage these solutions in their quest for more effective communications, efficiently coordinated processes, faster time to market and greater cost savings." HP is already benefiting from the enterprise solution the two companies are offering. For example, HP's Designjet Web site -- created and maintained by Banta -- enables enterprise publishing through a central repository that integrates information from several marketing and customer databases. HP can deliver personalized communications, such as product announcements, warranty updates, technical support and news to its customers worldwide. The content is customized by country, vertical market and product, then delivered via e-mail and the Web in the customer's native language. Banta's B.media™ content management system, the foundation of the enterprise publishing solution, provides an application for customers to easily manage their data from multiple repositories. "The solution is fully integrated with customers' business systems to ensure up-to-the-minute, consistent and accurate information," said Ron Musil, president of Banta's largest division, which provides print and integrated media solutions to publishers. "The information can also be readily repurposed for any publishing channel including traditional and digital print, the Web and wireless communication devices." Analyst firm Frost & Sullivan forecasts that the digital asset management industry will surge from $210 million in sales in 2000 to $5.2 billion in 2007. "HP and Banta are moving into a sphere of digital asset management that is going to grow phenomenally over the next few years," said Mukul Krishna, digital media industry analyst, Frost & Sullivan. "Most digital asset management solutions have, until now, focused on media and entertainment. The enterprise market is expected to surpass media and entertainment in terms of usage in brand management and customer service, fitting in nicely between enterprise resource planning systems and customer relationship management solutions." The relationship between HP and Banta comes on the heels of HP's announcement to acquire Indigo N.V. (Nasdaq:INDG), a leader in high-performance digital color printing systems. These relationships extend HP's leadership in printing technology, uniquely positioning HP as an integrator of Banta's B.media content management systems along with Indigo's and Banta's commercial printing expertise.
