HP Opens Cooltown Experience Centre in Canada

Enables Canadian Companies to Experience HP's Vision of Mobility

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, July 24, 2001

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today opened a Cooltown customer experience centre at its Canadian headquarters to demonstrate its vision of mobile, pervasive computing. Designed to inspire creativity among businesses and professional end-users, Cooltown features current and future technology showcased in various scenarios.

Cooltown represents HP's vision of the future, a world where everyone and everything is connected to the Web through wired or wireless links. Cooltown is built on the belief that this paradigm of mobility will change the way companies do business locally and globally, as well as the way individuals live their lives.

One of the demonstrations of HP's vision in the new experience centre involves a modified automobile. HP shows that a car can also become an Internet-connected device, much like the printers and PCs HP is known for today. With that connection, and some additional intelligence inside the vehicle, many different e-services can be accessed dynamically; the effect is that the experience of traveling is greatly enhanced. From monitoring potential breakdown issues to finding the nearest Thai restaurant, relevant e-services can be delivered based on where users are and what they are doing.

"Technology truly can transform the human experience and how we live our lives on the go," said Doug McGowan, general manager, HP Service Providers and Mobile Solutions Organization. "With Cooltown, HP helps enterprises transform the way they operate and serve their customers."

"Cooltown helps customers experience the benefits of intelligent connected devices, e-services and an always-on Internet infrastructure -- the technology backbone that supports it all," said Lynn Anderson, vice president of marketing, business, HP Canada. "Cooltown will provide our Canadian customers with a view into the future of mobility and inspire them to leverage technology to transform their businesses and stimulate future growth opportunities."

Cooltown briefing centres are located in Palo Alto, California, Geneva, Switzerland, and now Toronto, Ontario.
