HP Announces National Pride Month Sponsorships and Activities

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 13, 2001

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced its sponsorship of several National Pride Month festivals, parades and activities throughout the United States and Canada.

National Pride Month celebrates diversity and recognizes the achievements and contributions of the members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

In addition to the sponsorships, HP employees of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Employee Network (GLEN) will be participating in the various Pride Month activities.

"HP is proud to actively support National Pride Month," said Emily Duncan, director of global diversity, HP. "This isn't just a feel-good issue; it's a critical business issue. No competitive company that wants to win, and win big, can afford to practice a policy of exclusion. We need to create a more diverse workplace."

HP's participation in National Pride Month activities throughout the United States and Canada include:

  • Atlanta, Ga. -- Sponsorship of the local Pride festival. Members of GLEN will march in the local parade with a decorated passenger van and placards.
  • Bay Area, Calif. -- Sponsorship at the San Jose Pride Festival on June 9 and 10. Members of GLEN will march in the San Jose and San Francisco parades with banners and signs.
  • Boise, Idaho -- Sponsorship of address by Dr. Lynn Conway, a pioneer of computer engineering and the transgender community. In July, members of GLEN will march in the Boise Pride parade with an HP banner and have a booth at the festival.
  • Canada -- Members of GLEN will march in Toronto's Pride parade.
  • Denver, Colo. -- Sponsorship of the Denver Pride Parade. An HP banner will be on the main stage in the Denver Civic Center. GLEN will march on June 24 in Denver. HP will have a staffing and product booth at the Denver festival.
  • Corvallis, Ore. -- June 11-15 will be "Pride Week" on the HP site. GLEN will show a video and have an information table with brochures. Members of GLEN will march in the Portland parade on June 17.
  • Roseville, Calif. -- Sponsorship of the Sacramento Lambda Fair with an advertisement in the Pride Guide.
  • Vancouver, Wash. -- Sponsorship of "Saturday in the Park," the local Pride event. The festival takes place on July 14 at Ester Shore Park in downtown Vancouver. Members of GLEN from the Vancouver site also will march in the Portland parade.
