HP Canada Ranks Third in R.O.B.'s 35 Best Companies to Work for in Canada

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Jan. 26, 2001

HP Canada has ranked third in Report on Business Magazine's (R.O.B.'s) "35 Best Companies to Work for in Canada" survey, published today. The survey explored human resources and management practices as well as workplace culture and included a confidential questionnaire to randomly selected employees to solicit their thoughts about their working environment, accountability, pay and benefits.

"This ranking recognizes what we at HP have believed in our hearts all along, " said Paul Tsaparis, president and chief executive officer, HP Canada . "And it's testament to the enduring legacy of our founders, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. At HP, we believe our employees are our most important investment. Providing them with what they need to enjoy their work and to succeed enables us to attract and retain the talent required to ensure our continued success in a relentlessly competitive high-tech arena."

HP has always been a leader in its commitment to employees. Its innovative employment and management techniques -- known as the "HP Way" -- are widely emulated in the business world today. Now a standard offering with many employers, flextime was a radical notion in the 1950s when HP first introduced it. HP also is known for its practice of management by wandering around, which encourages managers to stay close to their teams and be easily approachable.

This was the 2nd annual "35 Best Companies to Work for in Canada" survey, conducted on behalf of R.O.B. Magazine by Hewitt Associates, a Toronto-based management consulting firm specializing in human resources.
