HP and the National Inventors Hall of Fame Announce HP Sponsorship of National Programs

PALO ALTO, Calif. and AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 16, 2001

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) and the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) today announced the launch of HP's national sponsorship of NIHF, a not-for-profit organization which has successfully promoted invention throughout the United States since 1973. The two-year sponsorship continues HP's strong tradition of nurturing the inventive and entrepreneurial spirit, whether in schools, research laboratories or the workplace.

"HP and the National Inventors Hall of Fame are both dedicated to encouraging inventions that are significantly useful and contribute to the progress of people and science," said Richard DeMillo, chief technology officer, HP. "We also share a common mission to nurture today's and tomorrow's brightest minds."

HP's sponsorship involves financial and equipment support for many of NIHF's national projects and educational programs. NIHF programs extend to nearly 500 primary schools and 250 colleges and universities across the country, and include the Collegiate Inventors Competition, which recognizes the most inventive students in America, and Camp Invention, a summer day-camp program that promotes inventiveness in elementary school-age students. HP plans to contribute servers and desktop computer equipment, digital cameras, scanners and printers to help power the NIHF Web site at http://www.invent.org. "We are extremely pleased to partner with HP because of its clear dedication to invention and innovation," said David Fink, NIHF President and CEO. "At NIHF, we look forward to the opportunity of working with HP to encourage and inspire the spirit of invention in people of all ages."

"With this sponsorship, HP is partnering with a multi-layered organization that draws a national audience," said Steve Anderson, program manager, HP Sponsorship Marketing. "HP gains the opportunity to broaden its reach through NIHF's popular Web site and its educational programs, which range from kindergarten to college."
