HP Statement

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 15, 2000

Hewlett-Packard Company has issued the following statement:

An HP employee who was reported missing late Dec. 14 from an HP shuttle flight from Roseville to the San Jose International Airport has been found and identified.

She is a 31-year-old foreign service employee from HP Germany and a subject of the Netherlands. She worked in both the Palo Alto and Roseville offices within Operations Procurement.

We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

According to initial reports from passengers on the aircraft, she exited the plane from the rear door during the 45-minute flight. After a search of the area below the flight path, authorities found her body shortly after 2 p.m. PST Dec. 15.

FBI and FAA officials have released information from their investigations of the incident. They concluded that there was no mechanical malfunction involving the aircraft's rear door, no indication of criminal activity and no pilot error.

Out of respect for our employee, her family and colleagues, we have no further comment.
