Yosemite Technologies and HP Announce TapeWare's Support for HP Ultrium Products and Linear Tape-Open Technology

Fresno and Palo Alto, Calif. -- Dec. 07, 2000

Yosemite Technologies, developer of TapeWare, a storage management software, and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) today announced TapeWare's support for HP Ultrium products and Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology.

The HP Ultrium format powered by TapeWare gives network administrators an advantage when dealing with mass data storage and management. Increasing volumes of data and extended hours of network traffic leave less time for administrators to secure data. Recognizing a need for change, HP co-developed the Ultrium technology to offer new levels of capacity, reliability and data-transfer rates. This technology, supported by award-winning TapeWare, becomes an industry-wide response to the complexities of growing networks.

Ultrium is a single-reel tape format targeted at users requiring ultra-high capacity backup, restore and archive capabilities. The Ultrium format enables manufacturers to develop products with 200GB of compressed capacity and deliver transfer rates from 20-40MB per second compressed (10 to 20MB per second).

Ultrium's roadmap is designed to enable future products with compressed capacities up to 1.6TB (800GB native) on a single cartridge and transfer rates ranging from 160-320MB compressed (80MB to 160MB per second native).

"TapeWare's continued support of our existing tape technologies and now HP's Ultrium tape products extends our capabilities to meet the most demanding tape backup needs," said Jack Trautman, general manager, of HP's Data Protection Organization. "HP has worked closely with backup software vendors such as Yosemite to ensure system compatibility and the delivery of an easy, reliable and high-performance tape solution to our customers."

HP has bundled TapeWare with Surestore DAT, Travan and DLT drives since January 2000. "TapeWare's support for HP Ultrium drives expands our relationship with HP," said Nick Cornacchia, President of Yosemite Technologies. "It fits perfectly with our existing relationship. Strong alliances with top manufacturers like HP allow us to stay at the forefront of storage management software development. TapeWare is a unique blend of functions and features that fulfill the high demands of the network administrators with a lower cost than the competition."
