Azzurra Air Turns to HP Technology to Improve Efficiency

Italian Carrier Sees Leading-edge IT Solution as Critical to Its Ambitious Expansion Plans

GENEVA, Nov. 22, 2000

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) today announced the successful implementation of new IT infrastructure at Italian airline Azzurra Air.

The solution is designed to provide the Bergamo-based carrier with the technology it needs to better manage its crew planning, fleet resources and maintenance scheduling, accounting, and human resources.

Azzurra Air's new system incorporates Lufthansa Systems Berlin's integrated NetLine system for flight scheduling, crew management and operations control and various SAP enterprise resource planning modules.

HP, which worked with both Lufthansa Systems Berlin and SAP during the implementation, supplied a number of IT services, six K-Class and L-Class servers with disaster recovery functionality and data storage.

"We were involved in helping Azzurra identify best-of-market solutions before the start of the project," said Roberto Buccini, Sales Supervisor for HP's Extended Manufacturing Division. "All companies involved have considerable air transportation industry experience and worked together to ensure the system went live successfully on time."

"Operating in the most efficient way is crucial to the success of modern airlines which face rising costs and pressure to keep airfares low in a highly competitive marketplace," said Enrico Locatelli, Finance and Administration Director, Azzurra Air. "We identified technology as a key to giving the airline the power to better plan and manage all its people and fleet resources, both on the ground and in the air. This will ensure that we can look to operate with high levels of productivity throughout the company."

The project took just one year to complete from time of order.
