HP Introduces Storage Products Supporting Always-on Internet Infrastructure HP Lineup Adds Additional PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 9, 2000 Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) today presented the next step in providing customers an always-on Internet infrastructure with additions to its scalable networked storage product line. The latest offerings include a complete family of HP Surestore Ultrium products, the HP Surestore DLT1 tape drive and autoloader, the HP Surestore Disk Array XP48 and a number of XP solutions. "These products enhance our capability to provide best-in-class data protection and disaster recovery solutions while protecting our customers' data and investment," said Nora Denzel, vice president and general manager, HP Storage Organization. "Through our strength in innovative engineering, HP brings a unique combination of storage hardware, software, management and networking technology that meets the needs of the most demanding enterprises. HP expects to lead the open networked storage marketplace by enabling xSPs and data centers to support new business models with an always-on Internet infrastructure." Ultrium Tape Products An innovator and leader in tape technology, HP was instrumental in the development of the Ultrium format, based on Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology. By Dec. 1, HP plans to offer Ultrium technology with its industry-leading HP Surestore tape library product family that ranges from entry-level tape drives to high-end libraries. On Oct. 30, HP announced its first-generation Ultrium open-format tape drive, the HP Surestore Ultrium 230 -- an ultra-fast drive that can store up to 200 GB on a single tape at 30 MB/s. In early 2001, HP plans to introduce the HP Surestore Ultrium 215, an industry-first half-height drive that delivers a 200 GB capacity and a 15 MB/s transfer rate. The drive's innovative data rate matching (DRM), dual-mode compression, remote management and data conversion functionalities deliver superior levels of performance, data integrity and manageability. The company's four-generation Ultrium roadmap is expected to double performance and capacity with each generation, eventually reaching 1.6 TB of data. HP Surestore DLT1 For customers requiring capacities to 80 GB, the HP Surestore DLT1 tape drive offers compatibility with existing DLT products at a significantly lower price. The DLT1 combines proven DLT technology with up to 80 GB of backup capacity on a single cartridge and a 6 MB/s compressed transfer rate. The HP Surestore Tape Autoloader 1/9 also will offer the DLT1 tape drive. HP Surestore Disk Array XP48 Enhancing its extended platform product family for enterprise-class storage, HP also announced the HP Surestore Disk Array XP48, which delivers the same crossbar architecture and software as the recently released XP512, but in a smaller capacity and footprint. The XP48 is an ideal solution for customers with disaster recovery, regional data center or single application environments. The new array features zero downtime backup, high availability and no single point of failure solutions. HP provides the preferred xSP enterprise storage for Internet operations by extending its capabilities to include IBM AIX consolidation solutions and services for its industry-leading XP platforms. HP now offers enterprise storage solutions and services for HP-UX(1), multivendor Windows NT®, Windows® 2000, Solaris and AIX environments. Software Enhancements A suite of software enhancements complements the XP48 and XP512 for complete open storage solutions. Through a joint development effort with CNT, HP Continuous Access XP is now deployable over IP networks using CNT's UltraNet platform, providing a highly available, cost-effective disaster recovery capability that leads the industry. HP Cluster Extension XP provides metropolitan-wide application failover capability for AIX and Solaris environments. HP Performance Advisor XP allows real-time data collection and monitoring. HP Auto Path XP for NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 distributes I/O across multiple paths to provide maximum performance with the highest possible uptime and availability. HP Command View enables customers to monitor, manage and control their XP storage resources anytime, anywhere, across the Internet.
