HP OpenView Enhances Integration with CiscoWorks2000 to Provide Comprehensive Solutions for Managing Network Service Infrastructures

Dual Product Integration Offers End-to-End Fault and Service Management Solutions for Cisco Environments

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 24, 2000

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) today announced it has extended its relationship with Cisco Systems to enhance integration between the companies' industry-leading network management and Internet monitoring products as part of a comprehensive solution for intelligent management of IT network infrastructures.

In continuing efforts to provide unmatched service assurance for customers' e-services infrastructure, HP will integrate the HP OpenView Network Node Manager, a comprehensive network management solution, with the CiscoWorks2000 Device Fault Manager to provide customers extensive and flexible technology for managing their Cisco environment. HP is a strategic alliance partner of Cisco Systems and a key member of its ecosystem, delivering end-to-end solutions to customers worldwide.

Using data from the CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution, HP OpenView VantagePoint Internet Services will provide powerful diagnosis and root cause analysis for Internet service slowdowns and will enable IT administrators to manage their Cisco environments more intelligently and efficiently. They also will gain a more complete picture of their enterprise Internet service infrastructure.

Since Network Node Manager and VantagePoint Internet Services are integrated with the HP OpenView VantagePoint Operations console, IT managers have a complete view of their entire network infrastructure and the services it supports. Integrated with the CiscoWorks2000 solution suite, HP OpenView offers an overall perspective of infrastructure operations and provides powerful capabilities to isolate and diagnose the source of Internet service slowdowns right down to the network device. This Internet monitoring solution helps Web and Internet operations staff meet their service level agreements for Internet service availability and response time.

"Networks grow in complexity every day, so the enhanced integration between HP OpenView and CiscoWorks2000 is a logical extension that will allow our customers to view their entire enterprise network infrastructure more efficiently," said Brenda Peffer, director of marketing, HP OpenView Business Unit. "The integrated solutions will ensure our mutual customers can enjoy an always-on network and Internet infrastructure for the business it supports."

As part of the CiscoWorks2000 Device Fault Manager integration, HP OpenView's Network Node Manager will provide diagnostic information on intelligent Cisco traps and will empower IT administrators with the ability to quickly and easily identify problems to maintain the highest level of service availability within their networks.

HP OpenView plans to extend its heterogeneous network management capabilities even further in upcoming releases of Network Node Manager and other complementary network management modules.

"HP and Cisco together provide customers the network computer solutions they need to succeed in the Internet economy," said Brian Promes, product manager, Cisco Systems Enterprise Management Business Unit. "Enhanced integration of HP OpenView with CiscoWorks2000 using Internet-based technologies and standards enables our customers to implement highly flexible management solutions for their growing networks."

The Network Node Manager integration is part of the HP OpenView "Smart Way to Manage Your Cisco Environment" solution. Additional information can be found at http://www.openview.hp.com/smartway. HP OpenView VantagePoint Internet Services is currently shipping and the version integrated with CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution is expected to be available later this year.
