HP Thin Clients can help you see your way through the toughest business challenges.

Easy to buy, deploy and manage, they can be the ideal access device in server-based computing environments and are optimized for Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure.

As you deliver key applications to more users in more places, HP Thin Clients can help you increase security and reliability across your Citrix environment – while providing users with the familiar look and feel of a desktop PC experience.

And, since Citrix Systems and HP have been helping customers gain the benefits of centralized, more secure access to applications for over 10 years, you can go about your deployment with confidence, knowing you can count on Citrix application delivery and HP for your remote computing solutions.

Boost security

Recently, many public companies and government entities have been thrust into the spotlight for losing laptops or hard drives containing confidential information. At the same time, legislative changes, such as Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, have also underscored the risks of leaving valuable data on standard PCs. Both problems are easier to deal with in a remote computing environment.

With thin client computing, CPU, memory and hard disks are housed on servers and storage resources in a highly secure, data center — not on the desktop — so it's much more difficult for end users to lose or remove confidential data or to introduce new software into the system.

That can mean fewer hardware and software conflicts, less configuration issues and a reduced threat of viruses. The 'stateless' capability on the many HP Thin Clients also stores required settings on the server, rather than on the desktop. The net result: If a thin client is stolen or lost, the data you value can remain secure on your network!

For added peace of mind, HP Thin Clients support a variety of smart card readers, including the HP Smart Card Keyboard, enabling two-factor authentication for more secure network access. Remote BIOS configurability lets you lock down data ports and user access from a centralized management console. Mass storage drivers can also be disabled in the BIOS or software image to provide a more secure client.

Boosting security, HP Sygate Security Agent is pre-installed on select HP Thin Clients to provide multi-layered security with an application-specific firewall, application control, intrusion prevention and policy enforcement.

Heighten reliability

HP Thin Clients can help heighten the overall reliability of your computing environment. With no moving parts (none of the fans, hard drives or optical drives of a traditional PC), they are much more reliable. In fact, when compared to a typical PC, internal HP data shows that HP Thin Clients have less than ¼ the number of failures annually. This can result in a real savings as you reduce the frequency of deskside support and technical visits.

The reliability of HP Thin Clients really shines through in branch office deployments. Some HP customers have actually been able to eliminate service contracts for local client support. If a thin client does fail, they simply pull another from the stockroom and install it on the network to be up and running in minutes.

Get more desk space

HP Quick Release provides a variety of mounting options for HP Thin Clients — on a monitor, under a desk, on a wall, or on a stand

As part of a rigorous testing program, HP and Citrix work closely together to help optimize HP Thin Clients with Citrix Application Delivery solutions right out of the box. Initial deployment is easier, thanks to HP’s automated setup and configuration technology. For example, running in 'stateless' mode, you can immediately attach an HP Thin Client to the network to download settings automatically. Further, with an Altiris Deployment Solution, you can deploy, administer and configure all data, users and applications from a central location.

HP Thin Clients are also optimized for use with the latest Citrix® ICA® clients, as well as HP PCs, notebooks, IPAQs and handhelds — so they can be deployed as part of your enterprise-wide client environment.

Altiris also allows you to manage a distributed multi-vendor environment of thin clients from a single console, or from a browser on any web-enabled device from nearly anywhere.

This automates many common functions, like updates to registry settings or BIOS configurations. Unlike some thin clients, all HP Thin Clients have their BIOS on a discrete ROM, so you can manipulate, modify or flash the image without risk to the BIOS.

HP ThinState Tools let you make changes to software images or settings on one 'master' client, then capture them on a USB flash drive or on the thin client itself. From there, they can be easily deployed to targeted thin clients.

This tool also lets you back up customized images on a USB flash drive for easier recovery and works with a variety of tools within your familiar FTP/DHCP environment.
