"The PC maker's new energy-efficient business desktop PCs use less power, which is better for the environment and helps customers reduce energy costs. It is also the first major PC manufacturer to offer "80 percent efficient" power supplies, a key component of the ENERGY STAR 4.0 regulations that go into effect on July 20, 2007."

These days, everyone wants to be 'green.' With a goal to reduce our global energy use 20 percent by 2010, HP is no exception.

HP's strong commitment to preserving the environment makes it easier for customers to reduce their environmental impact, too. We've designed many products to be energy efficient and easy to recycle. Our lineup of energy-efficient business PCs is just one example of how we can help you keep more 'green' in your wallet by helping reduce overall energy costs.

Superior engineering for energy efficient design

By making environmental responsibility an engineering priority, HP has been able to design high-performance systems that are built to last, yet put efficiency first.

We offer a choice of desktop PCs featuring AMD's 'Cool 'n' Quiet' processors, which help reduce processor heat and offer a quieter work environment. HP's PCs with the new Intel® Core™ 2 Duo(1),(2), processors consume less energy while providing enhanced performance versus Intel processors offered just a couple years ago. You not only save money on the energy it takes to power the PC and the air conditioning, your overall cost of ownership can decrease.

The HP business desktop PCs have sleep settings preset to save power when not in use and adjustable fan speeds to maximize operating efficiency. They also include temperature sensors to monitor heat output and fan use, helping maintain the life of your desktop.

HP's new desktop PC's with 80 percent efficient power supplies are so ahead of the curve they actually beat the July 2007 deadline set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its tougher new ENERGY STAR® 4.0 standards. In the average commercial office building, as much as 15 percent of the energy bill is driven by technology-product power supplies. The optional 80 percent efficient power supplies for select HP business desktop PCs reduce wasted power and deliver significantly more efficiency than previous power supplies.

HP flat panel monitors meet demanding emissions, ergonomic and environmental guidelines set by TCO 03 for quality and environmental certification, as well as European Union Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHs) directives for materials. They include advanced power management features that comply with current ENERGY STAR guidelines.

An impressive lineup of energy-efficient PCs

HP's environmental engineering expertise extends throughout the full range of our desktop computing solutions. HP Blade PCs use low-voltage processors, lowering power usage through efficient power distribution and optimizing airflow to keep data centers cool.

HP Thin Clients also use less energy than standard PCs, offering up to 80 percent savings in power over traditional desktops. HP Thin Clients have no moving parts, making them extremely reliable. And, like other HP products, comply with the RoHS directive.

HP meets or exceeds most government certifications or directives. We offer more than 50 products registered with the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) to help you choose products based on their environmental attributes.

Reuse and recycling taken to new heights

HP has been at the forefront of recycling with product-specific programs and recycling incentives that give you the peace of mind of knowing that your equipment is being disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Programs like 'Trade in or Trade up' and 'Take-back' let customers return older systems for credit on newer ones — even other brands! The Asset Recovery Program provides enterprise customers with cash or credit for their used equipment. PlanetPartners™ is our worldwide hardware return and recycling program.

The best way to keep computer equipment out of landfills is to design them for recycling right from the beginning — maximizing their ability to be disassembled and recycled. HP uses bromine-free plastics with less paint and easy-to-disassemble enclosures to facilitate recycling the PC at the end of its life. We also limit or eliminate hazardous materials like lead and mercury to decrease potential impact to the environment if the PC ends up in a landfill instead of a recycling center.

Worried about sensitive company data not getting completely removed from your disks slated for disposal? You can't be too careful. HP disk drive sanitizing services can help keep your data safe.

Less packaging, less waste

To keep even fewer materials out of landfills, HP packages some products for shipment by using packaging material recycled from post consumer materials. For customers who purchase products in volume, HP offers bulk packaging services, which reduce transportation requirements by creating a greater density of products on pallets. And these customers will have less packaging material on site to remove. For business customers who don't require paper documentation and media on CDs for every end user, HP reduces the amount of documentation and CDs shipped, where possible replacing hardcopy with online support and software programs. This reduces the material used and shipped, and cuts down on waste.

Global thinking for global and local results

HP's global thinking has resulted in the design of business desktops that meet or exceed worldwide government and environmental regulations without impacting product performance, quality or reliability. Our leadership in eco-thinking qualifies our products for many recognized standards such as ENERGY STAR, EPEAT, Japan PC Green Label, IT Eco Declaration, Korea Eco-Label and TCO.

HP is dedicated to reducing our environmental impact, a well as that of our customers, partners, and suppliers. You focus on your business; we'll focus on helping you meet your organization's social and community goals — and help save money in the process.

(1)  Dual Core is a new technology designed to improve performance of multithreaded software products and hardware-aware multitasking operating systems and may require appropriate operating system software for full benefit. Not all customers or software applications will necessarily benefit from use of this technology.
(2)  64-bit computing on Intel architecture requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel® 64 architecture. Processors will not operate (including 32-bit operation) without an Intel 64 architecture-enabled BIOS. Performance will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations.
