HP Labs manager Dejan Milojicic elected president of IEEE Computer Society

Date:  January 30, 2013


Dejan Milojicic, a senior researcher and research manager in HP Labs, recently took on a new role as president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society. The largest membership organization of its kind in the world, IEEE has over 400,000 members, and IEEE Computer Society includes about 75,000 members. It is a key source of publications and technical information, and also organizes technical conferences around the world. Milojicic will serve three years in the role as IEEE Computer Society president-elect, president, and past-president of the IEEE Computer Society, taking on different responsibilities each year.

HP named second Most Trusted Company for privacy

In recognition of Data Privacy Day, Ponemon Institute has released its annual Most Trusted Companies for Privacy Study, with HP ranking the second Most Trusted Company for privacy, and the number one most trusted company in the technology category. The study tracks U.S. consumers’ rankings of organizations that collect and manage their personal information. Now in its seventh year, the research identifies the overall top performing companies and industries perceived by consumers to be most trusted for their privacy practices in 2012.

HP was in the same two positions in the 2011 rankings.

HP Chile selected as The Best Company for Working Mothers and Fathers in 2012

Date:  January 15, 2013


At the headquarters of the newspaper El Mercurio and in the presence of Minister of Economy Mr. Pablo Longueira, Minister of Women´s Affairs, Carolina Schmidt and other parliament representatives of the government, Edgar Witt, HP Managing Director and Fabrizio Moyá, HR Manager, accepted an award on behalf of HP for being among the Best Working Mothers and Fathers companies for the ninth consecutive year. This year, HP ranked number one.

Leadership Team – HP Chile

The 330 companies invited to participate met the following criteria: they were amongst the 100 most traded companies on the stock market in 2012, were linked to the United Chile Foundation (Fundación Chile Unido www.chileunido.cl), and were members of ICARE invited to participate in the study and open invitation published in El Mercurio and the magazine Ya (Revista Ya www.emol.com)

HP Support Automation Documentation Team Wins Top Honors in STC 2012 Regional Competition

The HP Support Automation Technical Documentation team in Georgia, U.S. was recently recognized in a competition conducted by the Society for Technical Communication (STC) for authoring documentation for the Insight Remote Support 7.0.5 Online Help and Installation and Configuration Guide.

The largest professional society in the world dedicated to the advancement of theory and practice of technical communication, STC holds a competition each year. Entries that win Distinguished or Excellence at the regional level can be submitted to the international competition. Only a handful of entries from around the globe receive the Distinguished Award, the highest recognition offered.

HP Fortify tools take gold and bronze in Readers’ Choice Awards

Two of HP’s Fortify products were winners in Information Security’s Readers’ Choice Awards. The Fortify Real-Time Analyzer and the Fortify Static Code Analyzer received a gold and bronze award, respectively, in the Best of Application Security 2012 category. The awards were based on votes from Information Security readers on the best application security products of 2012, including static and dynamic vulnerability scanners, and other source code analysis products and services used during development.

The Fortify Real-Time Analyzer received high scores across all criteria, with readers noting the product's ease of installation, configuration, and administration, its effectiveness in preventing known attacks or vulnerabilities, and the frequency of updates to detect new attacks and vulnerabilities. It also ranked higher than any of its competitors for integration with other security reporting and remediation tools. The Fortify Static Code Analyzer received accolades for its vendor service and support. However, readers were less pleased with how it integrated with other security tools, and its installation, configuration, and administration.

HP top ranked U.S. Company on 2012 Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics

Date:  November 21, 2012


HP has once again earned a top spot on the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics, placing second on the list and ranking as the top U.S. company. HP scored 5.9 points out of a possible 10 in this year’s Guide, which evaluates leading consumer electronics companies based on their commitment and progress in three environmental criteria: Energy and Climate, Greener Products, and Sustainable Operations.

Greenpeace recognized HP for efforts in Sustainable Operations, highlighting the company’s paper procurement policy, which bans suppliers linked to illegal logging, as well as HP’s policies and practices related to the sourcing of conflict minerals. In the Energy category, Greenpeace noted that HP has one of the best programs for measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its suppliers.

Nashville's Tech Community awards HP with Platinum Status

The Nashville Technology Council (NTC) recognized HP as a Platinum level sponsor, making them the only company to achieve this distinction. Through HP's sponsorship of FirstCamp—an event to encourage high school students to pursue tech careers, HP demonstrates its commitment to the future technology workforce. The sponsorship also includes support of education and events related to information security, health care IT, and manufacturing and logistical technology.

HP's partnership with NTC included presenting the Technology Student of the Year award at the recent NTC Tech Awards Gala 2012 to winner Scott Andrus from Vanderbilt University. Scott received a custom Gibson guitar, a new HP laptop, and a scholarship from HP.

Military Friendly's G.I. Jobs 2013 Top 100 Employers List ranks HP 18

HP has been ranked 18 on the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list. This is the first time HP has been represented since the award's inception. The list was compiled from a sample of 5,000 companies whose annual revenues exceeded $500 million. Criteria for the Top 100 list includes a company's military recruiting efforts, percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

HP Clorox IT team recognized by CIO

HP's IT team members supporting Clorox were recognized for their outstanding customer service by Clorox CIO Ralph Loura, who honors an IT department each year for providing outstanding service. The HP team received the top spot in three of the seven award categories, including the highest category, "Live the Values." The awards are categorized around the Clorox value system of integrity, curiosity, optimism, compassion, humility, service, leadership, and live the values. HP's Rajesh Ramalingam received the Live the Values award, Sheryl Co won the award for Integrity, and Andrea Tan received the Leadership award.


HP Global Digital Support team recognized by leading analyst firm

HP’s Global Digital Support (GDS) team was awarded Forrester Research’s Groundswell Award for its efforts to engage and energize experts on HP’s Consumer Support Forum. Since creating the forum in 2009, it has grown to six million visitors per month, helping over 40 million HP customers solve technology issues. The GDS team was able to energize its base of experts by hosting the first HP Social Support Summit, organizing worldwide expert meet-ups, developing forum-based contests and an “Unanswered Questions” widget, and revamping the popular “Expert Days” program.

HP Commercial Support and Services earns industry recognition

For the fifth consecutive year, HP earned the Excellence in Service Operations certification from the Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), for delivering superior technical support and services in North America for its commercial PCs and peripheral services. HP China recognized at CCID Annual IT Services Customer Satisfaction Survey Awards

For the fifth time since 2008, HP China’s Customer Support and Services was named China’s Best Contact Center of the Year from China Computer Industry Development Institute’s (CCID) Annual IT Services Customer Satisfaction Survey Awards. HP China also received the award for Best Customer Satisfaction for Support for Laser and Inkjet All-in-One Printers.


HP earns a top spot on Newsweek Green Rankings

For the third year in a row, HP ranked second on the Newsweek Green Rankings of the top 500 U.S. companies, and 22nd on the Global 500 list. In addition, HP held the top spot in the Technology Equipment sector on the U.S. list and 3rd in this sector on the Global list. HP and IBM are the only American companies ranked in the top 25 on the Global 500 list.

HP scores big in 2012 CRN ARC Awards for volume servers and notebooks/mobile computers

Date:  October 19, 2012


HP received high marks in this year’s CRN Annual Report Card, the benchmark by which solution providers rate their satisfaction of vendor partners in three areas: product innovation, support, and partnership. For Volume Servers, HP won the three subcategories as well as 12 out of 18 criteria used to judge vendors, with HP's strongest scores in the product innovation subcategory. HP's product quality and reliability score of 100.3 is the highest score in any area for any company in the category. HP also received the overall gold in the Notebooks category and high in the presales support and ease of doing business criteria.

HP Labs India receives honors in Education Technology from The Wall Street Journal

Date:  October 16, 2012


HP Labs India won in this category for its VideoBook educational system, which collects videos from YouTube and other online sources to enrich digital texts.

With VideoBook, the Bangalore-based unit of HP is taking aim at a cluster of problems with online education: While textbooks remain at the center of classroom instruction, creating compelling electronic versions, complete with custom video, can be time-consuming and expensive.

The technology uses software to identify the key topics in digital text and then searches the Web for appropriate examples such as videos, online lectures, or a graphic demonstrating a math concept.

HP named leader in supply chain management

Date:  October 9, 2012


HP received a 2012 SmartWay Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for environmental performance and energy efficiency in the freight supply chain. A SmartWay Partner since 2007, HP was the first company to receive approval from the EPA to display the SmartWay logo on its product packaging.

As a winner in the Shipper category, HP joins a select group of companies to be honored with this year's SmartWay Excellence Awards. In fact, only 40 companies, representing less than 1 percent of the SmartWay Transport Partnership's nearly 3,000 partners, received the distinction.

The award recognizes HP's efforts to decrease the distance its products travel and to shift to more efficient modes of transport. Today, all HP consumer products are shipped using SmartWay certified carriers in the U.S.

HP's 2011 Global Citizenship Report and its Global Citizenship website received honors from the non-profit International Visual Communication Association (IVCA). HP Learning & Development wins big at Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards

HP named to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Date:  September 13, 2012


HP has been named to the 2012 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, which measures a company's economic, environmental, and social performance. This year, HP’s scores rose from 66 points in 2011 to 73 points—ranking us among the top 10 percent of the 2,500 largest companies on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.

HP also was named to the 2012 Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, which represents the top 20 percent of the 600 largest U.S. and Canadian companies on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.

The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index is an annual index of companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics. This year, HP was recognized for its strengths in the areas of codes of conduct/compliance and corruption, privacy protection, risk and crisis management, environmental management system and policy and stakeholder engagement.

HP wins spot on Carbon Disclosure Project's Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index

For the second year in a row, HP is featured in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index issued by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). HP scored 92 out of 100 points-which represents an eight point improvement over the company’s 2011 score. It also places HP in the top 10 percent of companies on the list.

The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index is a key component of the CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report, an annual update on greenhouse gas emissions data and climate change strategies at America's largest public corporations. The Index ranks companies on the transparency and progress they have made on their carbon emissions and climate change goals.

Date:  September 6, 2012


Bhuvaneashwar Subramanian's publication titled "The Disruptive Impact of Cloud Computing in the Life Sciences Industry" was honored in the SAGE Journal of Medical Marketing and was ranked 37 among the Top 50 most read publications. The Journal contains a range of peer-reviewed papers, including both practitioner studies and leading-edge academic research, covering the breadth of the pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostic industry.

HP wins Local Employer of Excellence and Spirit of Excellence Awards

Date:  August 15, 2012


The Texas Workforce Commission honored HP with a Local Employer Excellence award, an honor given to one private sector employer in each Local Workforce Development Area whose combined efforts and initiatives with the Texas Workforce System had a positive effect on other employers, workers, and the community. "The success we have acquired through our relationship with HP has resulted in jobs for qualified individuals and collaboration on initiatives that impact our region," said Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande CEO Lorenzo Reyes, Jr. "In addition to bringing jobs in technology to our region, HP has taken on a role of an involved corporate citizen. They were involved in our STEM Challenge, Job Expo, Education Expo, and participated in key stakeholder strategic planning sessions." Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande assisted HP with three different hiring events in 2011, resulting in nearly 200 hires.

In addition to being honored as a Local Employer of Excellence, Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande also recognized HP with a Spirit of Excellence Award. The award recognizes partners that have gone above and beyond in their contribution to the workforce system-capturing the "Spirit of Excellence."

Honorees were in one of four categories: staff, community partners, employers, and training providers. Criteria considered during the selection process varied according to category, but included state and board reports, in-kind contributions, and return on taxpayer investment.

"Recognizing our partners that help us fulfill our mission and vision as a workforce system is something we need to do," said Reyes. "The successes we achieve are not accomplished alone, we work with partners to leverage resources and move our region forward."

Cecilia Watt, Laura Lezama and Samuel Sustaita received the award on behalf of HP El Paso.


Interbrand names HP one of Best Global Green Brands

For the second year in a row, HP ranked the highest among electronics companies and fifth overall after Toyota, Johnson & Johnson, Honda, and Volkswagen on the 50 Best Global Green Brands 2012 list issued by Interbrand, a leading brand consultancy.

In ranking HP, Interbrand highlighted how HP is extending its leadership in energy efficiency with the HP EcoPOD and its Adaptive Cooling technology that allows the EcoPOD to use 95 percent less facilities energy compared to legacy data center designs.

Companies were ranked based on consumer perceptions of environmentally sustainable activities in 10 global markets and actual environment performance secured through publically available information and data.

PPS Printing Operations and Supply Chain IT win VICS Supply Side Excellence Award

HP’s PPS Printing Operations and Supply Chain IT teams were recognized as the 2012 winners of the Voluntary Inter-industry Commerce Solutions (VICS) Supply Side Excellence Award for strategic thinking and leadership resulting in effective supply chain practices and partnerships.

The VICS Collaborative Achievement Awards rank among the most prestigious in retailing, consumer goods, and related industries. The awards are designed to identify and reward excellence in supply chain collaboration, to recognize industry leaders who demonstrate leadership, and those who rise above their peers in pursuit of productivity.

PPS printing exemplifies supply chain collaboration and featured the deployment of the “one supply chain concept,” a game-changing approach to driving collaborative partner networks with manufacturing and logistics partners. It’s both a philosophy and a methodology for bringing supply chain partners to act as one “extended enterprise” working together to drive end-to-end supply chain efficiency and improve end-to-end synchronization.

The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) has commended three HP engineers for their work on important benchmarking projects and their contribution to the organization. In a letter from SPEC President Walter Bays, HP engineers Andrew Bond, David Schmidt, and Klaus-Dieter Lange were congratulated by name and held up as examples of the remarkable work HP does.

HP Wins Award for Disease Surveillance and Mapping Project

HP has won the Partnership/Collective Action award from GCBHealth for its Disease Surveillance and Mapping Project. HP partnered on the project with Positive Innovation for the Next Generation (PING), a youth-led non-governmental organization in Botswana; the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI); mobile network provider Mascom; and the Botswana Ministry of Health. The partners created an innovative way to track malaria and other diseases in Botswana, using smartphones to collect data on disease activity, and streamlining data collection and analysis to improve the quality of disease surveillance. HP Global Business Services EMEA Wins Two SSON 2012 Excellence Awards

HP Brazil Wins Second Consecutive Greenbest Award

HP Brazil has been awarded the Greenbest Award in the Technology category for the second consecutive year, with HP Original Cartridges voted the most sustainable product on the Brazilian market. The cartridges won the award due to the company’s sustainable attributes, Planet Partners recycling program, and “closed loop” system.

Last year, HP Brazil won the Greenbest Award for the MFP HP F4480 printer, which was chosen based on its environmentally sound design, use of recycled plastics in both the printer and cartridges, and its Energy Star certification.

HP ITO Global Delivery Team Wins TSIA STAR Award for Excellence

The HP Infrastructure Technology Outsourcing (ITO) Global Delivery team, part of HP Enterprise Services, has been awarded the STAR Award for Excellence, presented by the Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA). TSIA is the leading professional association in the technology services industry.

HP Technology Services Scores Multiple Wins at TSIA STAR Award Ceremony

HP Technology Services (TS) was named the winner of the Spring 2012 Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA) STAR Award for Spare Parts Management.

The STAR Awards honor education services, field services, professional services, support services, and service revenue generation organizations who display exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to the major disciplines of technology services.

HP TS demonstrated overall excellence in the management of service spare parts, with its emphasis on the people, processes, and technologies it uses to deliver exceptional results. HP a finalist in 2012 Franz Edelman Award competition

HP was among six finalists in the competition for the Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Operations Research and the Management Sciences. The finalists were named after an extensive selection process that began in September 2011.

The final round was determined after presentations by finalists in front of a distinguished panel of judges comprising operations research practitioners and academicians. After deliberations by the judges and audience polling, the top honor ultimately was awarded to TNT Express, Netherlands, but HP was recognized by the jury as being among “undoubtedly the best analytics teams in the world.”

HP’s Early Infant Diagnosis Program Wins Justmeans Social Innovation Award

HP has won the prestigious Justmeans Social Innovation Award for Most Strategic Use of Philanthropic Funds for its successful Early Infant Diagnosis program in Kenya.

The award was bestowed at the 2012 Ceres conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

Alan Nemeth, an HP Fellow and chief technologist for Enterprise Cloud Services, Unified Communication, accepted the award. He said that collaboration is “the most effective and sustainable way to solve problems.”

He added that working on the Early Infant Diagnosis program with Clinton Health Access Initiative, the Kenyan Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, and Strathmore University is a perfect example of collaboration in action, as it demonstrates the unique value that multiple stakeholders in public-private partnerships can make a positive impact on society and significantly benefit infant lives in Kenya.

HP Brazil Wins RFID Journal Green Award

HP Brazil has won the Green Award from RFID Journal in the sixth annual RFID Awards. HP Brazil was chosen for its radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions as total management for the lifecycle of products manufactured in Brazil through the SmartWaste project.

This is the second time HP Brazil has been honored in the RFID Awards—the first time a company has been honored twice. In 2007, HP Brazil won the Best RFID Implementation Award for the design and implementation of printers manufactured in Brazil.

Global Delivery Philippines Center wins Quality Program of the Year Award

Pawel Czajkowski, managing director of HP Poland, has been awarded the Silver Cross of Merit by President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski. The Cross of Merit is the highest civilian award in Poland and is a medal given to citizens who have gone beyond the call of duty in their work for the country and society as a whole.

Czajikowski received the cross for his 20 years of contribution and active involvement in building the information infrastructure in Poland.

HP Makes FTSE4Good List for Ninth Consecutive Time

HP has placed highly on a ranking of companies with the best scores in environmental, social, and governance by the FTSE Group, a global index and analytical solutions group. On a scale of 1 to 5, HP score a 4.5, with subsector score of 97 out of 100, earning it a prestigious spot of the FTSE4Good listing.

In the technology sector, HP ranked behind only Nokia and Intel.

This is the ninth year in a row that HP has made it onto the FTSE4Good list.

The six criteria covered in the ranking are environmental management, climate change, supply chain labor standards, human and labor rights, corporate governance, and countering bribery.

HP Wins National Governors Association’s Public-Private Partnership Award

HP has won the sixth annual Public-Private Partnership Award from the National Governors Association (NGA), presented to Enterprise Services at NGA’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

The award recognized HP’s collaboration with 13 U.S. states to develop the Medical Assistance Provider Incentive Repository (MAPIR) application. The application enables members of the MAPIR collaborative to coordinate and administer federally mandated incentive payments to help eligible Medicaid providers adopt electronic health record (EHR) technology.

Since the system went live last year, states using MAPIR have issued more than $400 million in incentives to hospitals, physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, and other eligible providers.

HP’s Jamie Erbes Honored in CloudNOW’s Top Women in Cloud Awards

James Stasiak of HP wins 2012 Johann Gutenberg Prize

James Stasiak of HP has been selected by the Society for Imaging Science and Technology as the recipient of the 2012 Johann Gutenberg Prize for his scientific and technical leadership role in a wide range of printing technologies, including organic photoconductor physics, inkjet physics and chemistry, printed electronics, custom fabrication, printed intelligence, environment-aware printing, and digital fabrication. The award carries with it a medal and a cash prize of $2,000.

Borislav Stefanov, executive director of the IBA, personally presented the award at an official ceremony attended by the Bulgarian political and economic elite.
