2005 HP Technology for Teaching Leadership Grant

Project Title: Supplementing Introductory Math & Supporting Engineering Clusters

Abstract: The NMSU team has found that technology is most effective when it is grounded in new models of teaching and learning involving a student-centered, project-based curriculum with increased opportunities for hands-on learning activities and respect for cultural diversity. Providing technology-enriched supplemental instruction for a key introductory math course has resulted in a nearly 300% increase in the number of students achieving an A or B grade. To enrich and extend their programs, NMUS will incorporate HP Tablet PCs in additional Introductory Math supplemental instruction courses.
