Developing business and IT skills

The HP Entrepreneurship Learning Program was launched in 2007 to support the growth of micro-enterprises in communities across Asia Pacific and Japan experiencing high levels of unemployment or economic decline.

Over the last year the program has grown to include 48 NGO centres each targeting micro-enterprises in their local community. Each centre has received a grant allowing them to set up HP technology training centers and training of the trainer on a business technology curriculum provided by the Micro-Enterprise Acceleration Institute (MEA-I). These grants have helped the centers establish business training facilities in turn providing local micro-entrepreneurs with access to the latest technology and ICT training to help them grow their businesses and provide them with the skills required to sustain that growth over time.

To date over 2,000 micro-enterprises have been through the program with over 54 percent of these reporting significant improvements to their business and hundreds of new jobs created. This year, the program aims to target and develop business and IT skills in young people and recent graduates through the introduction of the GET-IT curriculum into the program.

No new grants will be issued in 2009 however for more information on the program, visit www.mdp-asiapacific.org
