Global Green USA (the U.S. Affiliate of Green Cross International) just added a green gem to Hewlett-Packard's crown with the Corporate Environmental Leadership Award.
HP CEO Carly Fiorina received the award for her strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Through initiatives such as World e-inclusion, product recycling programs and the reduction of energy use in HP's products and operations, HP is gaining momentum in its aspiration to be an industry leader in addressing the challenges of social, economic and environmental sustainability during the 21st century.
"We're deeply honored to be receiving this recognition," Fiorina said. "It's a further demonstration of our enduring company values and our long-term commitment to these important programs."
Fiorina is the first CEO of an IT company to garner the Corporate Environmental Leadership Award. She joins the ranks of Joan Bavaria, Trillium Asset Management, and Ray Anderson, Interface, Inc., who won in past years.
"Leadership from the private sector is essential if we are to address the compelling issue of social and environmental responsibility around the world," said Debra Dunn, HP's vice president of Strategy and Corporate Operations. "I am highly encouraged that this recognition indicates HP is making progress in stepping up to this challenge."
The sixth annual Green Cross Millennium Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 13, was postponed due to unease around the September 11 tragedies. The formal ceremony, hosted by GCI President Mikhail Gorbachev, will be rescheduled within the next six months.
The Green Cross Millennium Awards, established in 1996, recognize and herald companies and individuals which embody Global Green USA's mission of "fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure world." Founded in 1993 by Gorbachev, the organization aims to create a sustainable future by cultivating harmonious relationships between humans and the environment.
