Customers save energy and money with HP products and services
From the smallest PDA to the largest data center, HP designs energy efficient products and services that help customers save energy and money.
IT solutions can significantly drive greenhouse gas reductions HP has sponsored a new report published by the WWF that highlights the significant CO2e emissions reductions from the development of a global, open access, video conferencing infrastructure while providing additional business benefits at the same time.
The report, ‘Virtual Meetings and Climate Innovation in the 21st Century’
outlines the significant impact that employee air travel makes on a company’s total carbon footprint.
ICT Innovation as a Driver of Climate Change Solutions will work to identify one billion tons of carbon reductions through the use of technology and services to help reduce climate impacts and carbon dioxide emissions globally. This program, based in Europe, will feature HP products and employee engagement opportunities.

Sustainable Innovation Award
HP and WWF have joined forces to support a Sustainable Innovation Award which was launched by Ashridge Business School and the European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS) earlier this month.
The award has been designed to generate the best ideas from MBA and other post-graduate students across Europe, the Middle East and Africa on how organizations can create value from the shift to a low-carbon economy. The theme of the award – Sustainable Innovation – challenges students to find new ideas for business innovation, product and service innovation or process innovation.
HP and Earth Hour Turn Out the Lights
In order to raise awareness of climate change, HP supported WWF’s Earth Hour initiative where cities around the world literally ‘turned out the lights’ at 8:30 local time on March 20, 2009. HP’s sponsorship of Earth Hour is part of the company’s joint initiative that began in 2006.
Businesses Call for Action on Climate Change
HP and other business leaders are urging the U.S. Senate to pass a bill that will reduce U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases, spur technological innovation, invest in effective solutions and jumpstart a clean energy economy, both in the U.S. and around the world.
HP signed the 2009 Copenhagen Communique
on Climate Change which calls for a UN climate framework to be developed. Previously, HP has signed the 2008 Poznan Communique and 2007 Bali Communique calling for a comprehensive, legally binding United Nations framework to tackle climate change, and the Tokyo Declaration calling for the world’s greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced by more than 50 percent by 2050.
Take action:
1. Estimates of savings between 2005 and 2008 based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WARM Tool for product recovery volumes. Telepresence usage here. Duplexing based on 2.81 gCO2e per gram office paper and estimated paper savings of 383,967 metric tons.
2. HP uses the guidelines set forth in the GHG Protocol (www.ghgprotocol.org) to inventory corporate emissions
3. The average energy consumption of HP products is estimated using high volume product lines representative of the overall shipped product volume. Energy consumption has been estimated in 2005 and annually since. The high volume product lines include notebook and desktop computers, Inkjet and LaserJet printers, and industry-standard servers.
