Innovation matters. Innovation is vital to meet changing business needs, solve problems and improve quality.

In addition to delivering HP innovations through our $104 billion portfolio of products and services, our Technology Licensing Portfolio offers your business access to HP's technology (e.g. software, work product, schematics, prototypes, designs), patents and know-how consulting to help you improve operational cost and achieve faster time-to-market.

The HP IP Licensing group coordinates across HP to facilitate your licensing needs, from finding the appropriate licensing mix (of technology, patents, trademarks, copyrights and know-how) through transferring the technology and helping your business fully exploit it to meet your business needs and to create a lasting technology partnership.

Over the last 10 years, HP has invested over $25B in R&D, including $3.6B in 2007. The breadth of HP's innovation and invention activities, ranging from digital imaging to nanotechnology, is reflected in HP's Technology Licensing Portfolio. A snapshot of our current licensing activity includes:

» Computer technology
» Display technology
» Energy
» LifeScience

Sample licensing programs

  • Ambient light rejecting projector screens — technology that significantly improves both the perceived brightness and contrast of projected images in illuminated environments.
  • Dyes for writable Blu-ray® discs — a dye system optimized for the new generation of recordable high-definition optical discs.
  • Memory Spot — a small, wireless memory IC that can be used to locally store and retrieve digital content.
  • Nanotechnology-based solar cells — technology that uses the quantum effects of nanoscale features to improve the efficiency of solar cells over conventional solar technology
