HP is a recognized leader in driving the development and adoption of industry standards, having earned a positive image for our public advocacy and effective support for open standards.

Standards are critical to HP's business to help ensure our customers benefit from better interoperability and compatibility across a wide range of products and services. HP actively participates in over 750 standards committees in over 200 industry standards organizations, worldwide. Examples of HP's leadership in standards are highlighted below:

Blu-ray Disc format — The distribution of the Blu-ray Disc format specifications, the Format and Logo License Agreement (FLLA) as well as the Content Protection Support Agreement (CPSA) is handled by Sony. The conditions of these activities are as agreed upon by the Blu-ray Disc Founder companies.

DVD+RW - format for writable DVDs

Ultrium LTO — format for near-line storage tapes

As part of the industry standards process, HP typically licenses its patents on either royalty-free or reasonable and nondiscriminatory (RAND) terms to implementers of the industry standards.

If you have specific standards licensing needs or interests that you think HP can help you with, we invite you to contact us.
