HP actively participates in over 750 standards committees in over 200 industry standards organizations, worldwide. Examples of HP's leadership in standards are highlighted below:
Blu-ray Disc format The distribution of the Blu-ray Disc format specifications, the Format and Logo License Agreement (FLLA) as well as the Content Protection Support Agreement (CPSA) is handled by Sony. The conditions of these activities are as agreed upon by the Blu-ray Disc Founder companies.

As part of the industry standards process, HP typically licenses its patents on either royalty-free or reasonable and nondiscriminatory (RAND) terms to implementers of the industry standards.
