HP’s government affairs team drives business growth, increases market access and reduces operating expenses and risk through policy and political leadership in Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ). HP believes innovation increases productivity and competitiveness, leading to job creation and economic development. Accordingly, HP supports public policies that maximize the ability of individuals and companies to innovate in order to benefit our citizens, strengthen the economy, and help companies succeed in the global marketplace.
Innovation/Competitiveness
- Regional Investment: Working with multiple states and central governments in Asia-Pacific/Japan to create an attractive environment for investment into the region.
- Japan: Working to protect current market conditions in the free airwave spectrum (WiFi and Bluetooth).
Market Access
- IT Agreement (WTO): HP encourages the EU to respect the spirit of the agreement and refrain from introducing import duties on innovative products.
- Removing Trade Barriers: Encouraging governments to remove their preference for buying locally produced products.
- Anti-Counterfeit (ACF): Raise awareness of counterfeiting of HP products and strengthen ACF laws and enforcement priorities.
- Standards: Work across the regions to harmonize standards for technology products, in addition to promoting the cross recognition of standards and certifications globally. This will reduce our costs, in turn decreasing the cost to the customer and ensuring our ability to deliver innovative products to the region.
Environment
- Energy Efficiency/e-Waste: Create incentives in Australia & New Zealand for the use of energy efficient IT products; promote electronics recycling in a cost effective, environmentally sound manner through the enactment of legislation based on flexible and reasonable mandates, tax incentives, and the elimination of regulatory obstacles.
- Environmental Standards: Working in the region with authorities on the environmental standards such as RoHS and WEEE.
