HP Lauds Post-Grokster Review to
Protect Copyrights, Innovation & Consumers
Statement by John Hassell, HP Director of Federal & State Government Affairs
For Immediate Release: September 28, 2005
“The Senate Judiciary Committee should be commended for reviewing how the Supreme Court decision on Grokster has helped further protect copyrights, innovation and our technological frontier.
“HP believes the Court got it right by upholding strong copyright protections for all creative endeavors, while also ensuring rules on copyright liability do not impede important technological innovations and cutting-edge product developments. The Justices struck a responsible, delicate balance between creativity and future growth so all stakeholders can continue moving forward without additional legislative intervention. HP believes all stakeholders should benefit from fair and balanced rules – the entertainment industry, high-tech firms, as well as consumers.
“HP will continue working with the Senate Judiciary Committee and other policymakers to further the basic principles of protecting copyrights, fostering innovation, and enhancing the consumer experience.”
