HP Statement on MGM v. Grokster Decision
Statement by Gary Fazzino, Vice President, Government and Public Affairs
For Immediate Release: June 27, 2005
"HP supports strong copyright protection for all creative endeavors, including the entertainment industry. At the same time, it is critical to ensure that copyright liability rules do not impede important technological innovation and product development that will foster creativity and growth in the future and provide consumer benefits. In upholding the Sony Betamax case, the Court's ruling further illustrates this point by striking a reasonable balance between copyright protection and innovation, so all will benefit... the entertainment industry, the technology industry, and ultimately, consumers.
"In general, HP is committed to three primary principles for digital rights management: to emphasize the consumer experience, to build reasonable content protection solutions, and to respect intellectual property and copyright. We will continue to work with policy-makers to encourage developments that further these principles."
