HP Praises New U.S.-Bahrain Free
Trade Agreement
Statement by John Hassell, HP Director of Federal & State Government Affairs
For Immediate Release: January 11, 2006
“HP applauds President Bush for today signing into law the U.S.-
Bahrain Free Trade Agreement. By implementing this legislation,
the President is helping to eliminate tariffs and enable HP and
other companies to maintain America’s competitiveness in the
global marketplace.
“Under this agreement, Bahrain will immediately eliminate
import taxes on most technology products. For example,
qualifying goods like PCs, printers, digital cameras and
handheld devices will enter the Kingdom at zero duty. U.S.
exporters, like HP, will also benefit from commitments by Bahrain
to modernize customs procedures.
“In today’s ever-expanding global marketplace, it is more
important than ever to ensure American companies can remain
competitive. This agreement actually benefits both countries by
helping to spur economic growth and improve employment
opportunities for the people of the United States and Bahrain.
“As an industry leader and the top provider in the Middle
East/North Africa region of innovative technological solutions,
HP looks forward to increasing business opportunities in the
global marketplace through competitive initiatives like free trade
agreements. We commend the President and pro-growth
Members of Congress for their continued leadership on behalf of
America’s high-tech industry.”
