HP Applauds House Hearing on
Oman Free Trade Agreement
Statement by John Hassell, HP Director of Federal & State Government Affairs
For Immediate Release: April 5, 2006
“HP commends the leadership of Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA)
and the House Ways and Means Committee for
holding a hearing today in support of the Free Trade Agreement
with Oman. An integral component of maintaining America’s
competitiveness includes the expansion of trade boundaries --
and this hearing is an important step in that direction.
“As an industry leader and the top innovative technological
solutions provider in the Middle East/North Africa region, HP
looks forward to increasing business opportunities in the global
marketplace through competitive initiatives like free trade
agreements.
“Today’s international marketplace demands that the United
States work to eliminate tariffs and create new opportunities for
innovative American companies to expand their product and
service offerings globally. Free trade agreements benefit
American high-tech companies like HP as well as Oman by
helping to spur economic growth and improve employment
opportunities for the people of the United States and Oman.
“HP is committed to working with Congress and the
Administration to pass the free trade agreement with Oman as
well as continuing to pursue expanded free trade agreements
with other countries. HP strongly supports policymakers in the
Congress and the Administration working to open trade markets
abroad that will help America's high-tech sector sell our products
and services and globally enable us to reach our full potential.”
