HP Supports Senate Energy Efficiency Legislation

Statement by Paul Perez, vice president, Storage, Networks & Infrastructure, HP

For Immediate Release: July 19, 2006

“Hewlett-Packard applauds Senators George Allen (R-VA), Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) for introducing yesterday legislation S.3684 that directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct a study analyzing the rapid growth and energy consumption of computer data centers by the Federal Government and private enterprise.

“HP urges the US Senate to pass this bill promptly. The House of Representatives already overwhelmingly passed the House version, HR 5646. It is imperative in today’s world of rising energy demand and costs that measures be taken to increase cost-effective, energy efficient technology.

“HP is unique in addressing the energy conservation demand through using an approach that improves customers’ ROI by enhancing the energy efficiency of their data servers. HP’s approach includes evaluating a customers’ environment and then taking into consideration the multiple variables and needs of that customer to provide the most cost-effective and environmentally sound solution. HP recently announced its BladeSystem C-Class will deliver 40% higher energy efficiency than a comparable number of discrete servers.

“As a founding member of The Green Grid, an open global organization whose goals are supported by the EPA and which seeks to decrease IT datacenter energy consumption, HP looks forward to working with both Congress and the Administration to encourage and advance the innovation of energy efficient technology.

“HP urges the U.S. Senate to support and pass Senators Allen, Bingaman and Boxer’s legislation, S.3684. HP looks forward to working with Congress, the EPA, IT industry leaders and end-users through The Green Grid to preserve and increase our nation’s energy efficiency.”
