HP Praises Skilled Worker Immigration & Fairness Act
Statement by David Isaacs, HP Director of Government Affairs
For Immediate Release: May 17, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 17, 2007 –"HP applauds the introduction of the Skilled Worker Immigration and Fairness Act as a positive step that would provide crucial reforms to the H-1B visa and employment-based green card programs. Those reforms are vitally important to America’s competitiveness and economic success, so Congress should act this year to fix them permanently.
“HP thanks the sponsors of this bill, Senators Joseph Lieberman (ID-CT) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE), for their leadership. Their efforts to strengthen our nation’s workforce would allow American businesses to innovate, grow and compete in today’s increasingly competitive environment.
“This bill contains measures that would go a long way toward alleviating the crisis facing U.S. employers of highly educated foreign professionals, while also paying careful attention to measures to improve visa fraud and abuse. These provisions should be included in a Senate comprehensive immigration reform measure.
“HP looks forward to continuing to work with Senator Lieberman and Senator Hagel, as well as other lawmakers from both sides of the aisle on this and other important legislation that will allow HP and all American companies to maintain our tradition of bringing innovation to the marketplace.”
